can you encircle the area on this picture (using microsoft paint) where exactly is he suffering from pain?
plus also ask him about this:
1. how long has he been suffering for? any history of heavy weight lifting or accident? has he fallen down anywhere?
2is it spreading anywhere?
3. does it get worse in any way? ie. by sitting, lying down, crouching?
4. is it relieved in any way?
5. what sort of pain is it? is it sharp, dull, throbbing?
6. when does it start? when does it stop? how long does this pain stay for?
7. has it improved/worsened over time? or has it stayed the same?
8. does he have any other problems with this pain? eg, any sound of crackles in his spine? does he have any other joint pain?
9.has he been to a doctor? if yes, what medications has he been prescribed and since how long has he been taking them?
sorry,l could go on and on with the questioning but it's important to pinpoint what problem he has.

Try basic for 3 days - steam with vicks ( or uclayptus oil 5 drops ) inhale 15 minutes 3 times a day. Try Keep nose clear like doing wazoo ( ablution ) as much as you can

Any remedy or treatment for blocked nose thing? its getting on too much now..... will operation keep the blockage away forever or not?
Its affecting my studies nowadays too.... and am not getting time to get operated

If Anyone suffering from Sciatic pain/ Disc issues.. please let me know. I am here to help the conservative approach. I can share how I am dealing with a very serious issue with multilevel disc compression being lumbar at worst. I can help in your daily routine as well as pain management.

I will never nor I will recommend anyone give medical advise here unless a patient get him/herself checked by physician. I have a dozen doctors in my close family including my dad, sister her husband and one of brother and they didn't even recommended anything in my recent on going lower back pain. Everyone recommend me to see a specialist dealing with the problem. If anyone have persistent back pain with pain going down the legs.. and one don't get a relive after 1/3 weeks.. its time to get an MRI and get it checked by specialist.

2) It Isn't spreadimg but on standing still a horizantol strip gets hard.

3) It gets worse when he sits on floor and when he sits on driving seat.

I hope you have read about my detailed findings and investigation on my thread. Your dad need a healthy routine. Walk. Back stretching to help improve and strengthen muscles as well as his BMI. I hope he is not overweight. If he is over weight or have weak muscles in abdominal area. The pressure will increase in lumbar spine area and lower. Getting an MRI isn't bad idea. I am with severe spinal stenosis at L4-5 and its my 8 th weel with pain. Now started subsiding. If the pain hets worse. Doctors can inject a epidural in local problem area to relief pain. I m telling you improve his life style but encouraging him to walk. Meanwhile I will share / scanned exercises which he can do at home. Two to three times a day for back strengthening. Also he need to stay away or discontinues daily activity soon as he feel pain.. No heavy lifting. Bend knees to pick up anything. Not bending the back..

Your dad and I m in same boat. I will help with my experience.. Again as I suggested. Seeing a specialist is must.. And he can see symptoms / signs and clinical history to further recommend MRI or any other investigation. But MRI is the right test.

As fazalwahab correctly said, I can't manage this problem without having a look at your dad. However I have excluded certain pathologies that would require immediate attention.
I would advise him not to take any pain killer tablets without a doctors advice (who has actually examined him) and if prescribed, he should never take them on an empty stomach as it damages the internal protective lining of the stomach and intestine causing ulcerations which are painful and have their own problems.
Nor should he do any back exercises till a doctor examines him. He will pinpoint whether this pain is muscular or due to a joint and every joint /muscle pain has its own specific exercises. Till then no heavy lifting. And buy him a car seat support cushion (molty foam) so that his back doesn't ache when he drives.
As a safe yet effective remedy, I would advise 'fastum gel' (contains ketoprofen 2.5%) to applied on the area which is painful and massaged. And get an appointment from an orthopaedic doctor as soon as possible.
I know a good orthopaedic doctor in Islamabad and if you're interested I could PM you his details.

Getting an MRI here in Pakistan is pretty expensive. Unless a orthopaedic advises it, he shouldn't get the done. Sometimes x rays are enough to diagnose a joint pathology.
He needs to be examined by a doctor to localise the site of the pain. Every joint has its own specific exercises. So unless we are sure which joint is involved asking him to do a specific exercise could be detrimental

Well for better diagnosis he need an MRI. I had several X-rays. MRI costs 2300 dollars without insurance ( my insurance covered 80% of it) and its cheap not here ad well. None of my xray showed the severity of the compression/ bulging out disc. It was showing the reduced space between the vertebras only. If he is is in a lot of pain for a longer period of time ,the doctor might go for MRI as in my case. To further confirm if the disc is compressed, which direction, how much, also if its touched the spinal canal as well as if there is any fluid leakage from nucleus of disc. All this info is not possible from xray at all.

Its again doctor opinion. I was almost paralyzed few weeks ago.. I am sharing what I m going through . Last Monday I was ready for laser spine surgery but Allah helped and my pain reduced and doctor have postponed it for now..
And he need to go to neurophysicsn or may be neurosurgeon./ with speciality in spine..
