Not in favor of doing this but talking strictly from a financial cost/benefit point of view:
Assuming khyber gives 12kmpl on its own carb (0.083litres / km) and 15kmpl on Mehran carb (0.066litres/km)
So every kilometer i drive on Mehran carb, I save 0.02litres of fuel.
if my engine gives 20k kilometers before completely dying out. I can save : 20,000 x 0.02 = 400litres of fuel
at today's rate of PKR291/litre. This equates to a saving of PKR116,400.
Shop owners and scrapyards are asking PKR70-90k for a complete Khyber engine (japanese) and PKR50-60k for a complete local engine (local khyber but a few 1000s kms driven only, they claim those were government cars and were left to rust in scrap until sold at throwaway/auction prices).
So even if an engine completely dies out after 20,000 kms driving it with Mehran carb. The net saving would be : PKR116,400- 80,000 - 20,000 (labor, machinist and new oil etc charges for installing a new engine after 20k kms) = 16,400. The completely died out engine would be sold for at least 15k. That makes for a saving of almost PKR30,000.
For me and my family where car is driven hardly 700kms in a month, this means i can enjoy more fuel efficiency for 3 years and then get a completely new(kabli) engine.
