clearly youve owned a VW
no doubt those words are golden. i used one last night and it really is worth it's weight in gold! for the time being i'm using a suzuki coil as i've jkust been too lazy to fit the petronix one i bought. that'll go on when i fit the 34 carb (which i still havn't serviced).
reason i was so lazy about refurbishing my 34 was that i wasn't sure it'd fit the 1300DP intake manifold. last night i found out that it will so i'll try and do it this weekend (along with the disk brakes).
you're right, i spent an hour on her last night and now she fires up like a champion. Main issue was that the fuel filter was completely blocked.
while i was at it i did the following:
removed, cleaned & gapped the plugs
removed, cleaned & fixed the ignition wires
fit new rubber boots to the ignition cables
clened and adjusted the rotor & distributor cap
adjusted the carb (idle was rough)
swapped over my inner door handles (they were fit upside down 4 years ago)
also did a few more small things but i can't remember what they were
As for cost, around 4.6lacs till now (including the car), but that includes spares so i havn't incurred any costs for quite some time. i know many will think it is madness to spend that much on a beetle, but if you consider that i intend on keeping this car for as long as i can and want to be 100% safe then i had to spend this money, as the car (when i got it) was in a very bad way. Also had i bought the stuff from the US it'd have been allot cheaper but it was easier getting it from the UK.
I say build it once, but build it right. no juggars.
