***Rebuilding my VW type 182 Thing***

ok this thread has been dead for a while now so i thought i'd give you all some updates.

lasst time you saw the car it looked like this:

so i thought it was time to do this:

clearly the floors were dead and i needed to get the lower body repaired and the floors changed:

while i was in the UK the new floors went on and now the floors are SOLID!

Gearbox is an AW code (something which i know nothing about) and the rear suspension is IRS

Fan shroud is the late model "dog house" version,.. lovely!

this front beam belongs to KPsheikh, my other 2 are at a different location and i need to swap them out soon (sorry KP)

had to get some other work done so the 182 had to be put on pause for a bit (body fit back on)

in the last few days i have had the work restarted on my "thing"

I should point out that this car was in a worse state than my 1303 when i bought it (even though it looked great from outside) but these cars are simpler to rebuild than the beetles so the work will progress VERY quickly.

I can see the two body shop guys at work One having a lunch break and resting, other checking for all the welds under the car

Btw, does this body shop guy just do VWs? All I can see in the background and surroundings are VWs

this pic was taken just before eid, yes these guys specialise in VW's but they are good at other cars as well.

thing will be ready by late summer i guess. had it on pause for a loooong time. had to get something else done to another car first and then i had to get all the parts i needed for it.

Any ideas on what colour you going to go for on this car?

was debating this for a wile but most likely it'll be matte grey with a military theme, metallic grey like my defender with some aluminum accent pieces or sahara beige.

Sameer, Good to see that you are working on "YOUR THING" again. Hope fully Your thing will see some action this summer.

the thing is coming along slowly, i'm making the mechanics only work on it 1 hour a day so they work better. also the thing initially will need very little work. the details will be in the design of the hood and the little bits like clips mounts etc.

bodywork is done except for the front fender, time to put it back together.

all work done but waiting on one fender which we can't find a sample for,.. otherwise it's all ready for paint.
