Recommended OIL for Toyota Corolla!

Aoa guys. I just want to know one thing. I have corolla 2012 gli 50,000 kn driven. Engine is in very good condition. Initailly i used caltex 20w-50 oil for 2 years or so and then switched to shell hx7 5w-30. Engine is doing good. But today a mechanic said that this oil is not is not good as its viscocity is not for the engine and it is depositing sluge in the engine. I fail to undertsand this as shell is a good oil and i buy it from panj sarki company operated pump.I want to know if this shell oil is of bad quality.

He said its good to use toyota 5w-50 new toyota oil. Where as in car manual the oil grade mentioned are 5w-30, 10w-30,15w-40 and 20w-50. So using 5w-50 shell or toyota new oil in white plastic bottle would be good option? These both are fully synthetic oils? Please suggest.

Go for lowest grade your manual permits for the temperature range expected in your city. Manual of my car recommends 40 grade for 40*C plus temperature so I have chosen 5W-40 for Summers and 0W-20 for winter's. I can use 5W-40 in winter too but I have chosen less viscous grade which will help fuel economy a little.

you can extend drain interval till 20,000 km with good fully synthetic engine oil..

Max 8000km in summer and 10000km in winter. Pakistan has a dusty environment not like Europe even there you can drive max 15000km.

20W-30 is a disaster for 1.3 c.c, if toyota is using it, then i think, they dont care for their customers, only thing they care is money.

you should always choose between 10w-30 for summers and 5w-30 for winters.

20w50 is recommended in manual of the car

yes, you can use 20W-50, but in deserts with extreme heat.

My corolla 1.3 is burning 10w-30 so I switched to 20w-50 which is working fine but now I want to use 15w-40.

Please guide from where can I get this grade for petrol engine as mostly this oil is used in diesels.

Keep on driving on 20w50. It reduced oil already on lower viscosity. Don't do anything with it.

Brother if 10w-30 isn't suiting, then you may first try 10w-40, preferably by ZIC. To me, its the only value for money, fully synthetic engine oil available here locally in 10w-40 grade (rest are either semi synthetic, synthetic blend, or mineral, etc.). Secondly, it meets the latest API SN criteria (others might be stuck below SN grade, i.e. SM or below).

If it doesn't suit, then you may switch to 15w-40 or 10w-50. Shell offers 15w-40 locally. And if any of these doesn't suit, then 20w-50 should be the last choice.
