Refurbishing GS-500; A HANDS-ON-D.I.Y

Salam All Pak Wheelers,
I was looking to refurbish our Suzuki GS-500 motorcycle, after much thought and courage gathering, two of us brothers took plunge at the New Year eve and Alhamdullilah after about 100 days and double as many working hours, we have the mission accomplished.

We had decided to keep this project of ours as much do-it-yourself as possible and only out-source work we do not possess equipment for. I am happy and at the same time humbled to report our fair amount of success to this regard.
The chores out-sourced were removal of minor dings from fuel tank, small mends on fairings, fabrication & welding of muffler bracket and pipe, Chroming of silencer and Zinc plating of bolts.

The work undertaken by yours truly included complete dismantling & re-assembly, complete paint work and electrical work (though it was of minor nature).

Here I must extend my gratitudes for the inspiration I got from Abbasi sb. (msabbasi), Yasir sb. (yasirsa), and my city fellow Nadeem Sb. (Basic) without ever in direct contact with the.

Now I will let roll the pictures, starting with the usual one of before-and-after.

Yaqoob Sb. First of all, Maasha Allah nice work. Waiting to see more of the pictures of close ups of this mean machine, it would satisfy our hunger. From what I can gather both you and your brother have poured your heart into this project; and it shows.

Second, You humble me by mentioning myself to have been one of the people to have inspired you. Thanks for the notable mention. More of us should be doing the work ourselves. Both @basic and @yasira have earned my huge respect with their devotion to doing the job themselves and getting it right plus teaching others a thing or two. Artists in their own rights.

Off all the bike organs engine was the dirtiest one thus warranted special treatment.
I very much doubt if anyone had bothered to wipe gunk from its oil pan or clutch/drive sprocket compartment, even once during its decade long service life here at our motorways.
The operation cleanup was thoroughly delivered through liberal use of old good kerosene - Heavy dose of Oven Cleaner - Hard hitting 120 Bar Power washer - Lemon Max + Scotch Brite + Elbow Grease (Quite a few kgs.) scrubbing - Final Wash and the engine metamorphosed into a Real neat and clean unit, ready for paint booth.

Next stage was to prepare parts for primer application.
Small ding at fuel tank were dealt with by our penal beater, then we sanded it down, filled in by filler as and where needed, further sanded with different grit papers wrapped on sanding pad, thus readied for primer application.
Similarly all other parts were given the same treatment and readied for the next stage of primer application.
All this consumed around a fortnight time of ours.
