REGULAR vs SYNTHETIC Engine Oil - in terms of milage

a regular engine oil needs to be replaced at 4-5000kms , but ive come across a thread here where people say a SYNTHETIC ENGINE OIL can do 10,000km and some even said 12-13,000kms.. is this true??

i use honda oils (whatever the brand is) , the regular oil costs around Rs1800 and a synthetic for Rs2200.. with a price difference of just Rs400 , how can u get double mileage! and if we switch from regular to synthetic , does the oil filter needs to be replaced aswell??

the high quality synthetics are capable of lasting more thank 10k kilometers, but there is so much dust in pakistan that it is best to change at 5k. and the honda synthetic oil is pathetic, better switch to havoline 5w40, the recommended oil grade for our weather is 5w40 for honda city but the honda synthetic oil is 5w30. So havoline is a better choice since it is the correct grade and better quality

Sir what do u say about changing oil filter when changing brands or switching from synthetic to regular or vice versa? Honda oil filters last upto 2 oil changes...
i use honda oil as its genuineness is guaranteed by honda , other oils in market have greater chances of fraud

Havoline does not come in 5w40 any more I suppose or at least I did not find it....I have searched few places (including metro) but Havoline grade is 5w30 ...even shell synthetic (HX7) is coming in 5w 30 now....

if your old oil filter is still usable (i mean it has not gone through 2 oil changes) then you can keep it even when you change your engine oil brand. there is no problem with mixing mineral and synthetic oil.

Havoline does not come in 5w40 any more I suppose or at least I did not find it....I have searched few places (including metro) but Havoline grade is 5w30 ...even shell synthetic (HX7) is coming in 5w 30 now....

intially havoline fully synthetic oil came in pakistan as 5w/30 and shell syn 5w/40
from few months now havoline coming in 5w/40 and shell syn 5w/30

yes fully syn oil life longer than mineral but in dusty environment and city slow driving its better replace after 5 to 6 k in city drive and if car mostly on highway than can go upto 10 k
i replace oil filter with every oil change

what car do u have ? and what oil filter do u use?
honda fort n point say its oil filter (honda genuine , made in Thailand.. Rs700) lasts upto 10,000km or upto 2 oil changes..

my black orca aka xli 2012 mobil 1 fully syn with toyota genuine oil filter
honda city 2012 mobil 1 fully syn honda genuine oil filter
vitz 2010 caltex fully syn toyota genuine oil filter
where i am spending 5k just for oil and save few bucks for oil filter is not fair to me

NOOOOOOOOO! You (should) change the filter at every oil change.

the honda guys recommend 10 000 km for their genuine oil filter, but as you said, oil filter change at every oil change is safer

so the conclusion is that mineral oil and synthetic oil both last for almost the same mileage.. what do u say about the oils honda provides us with? are they just not good enough or that they should not be used at all?

i heard honda using "Total" oils, in my view at least caltex renowned and better company than total so i dont use honda oils.
buy caltex fully syn oil its about rs2900 for 4 liter pack and bring to honda 3s for replacement in that way ur car warranty will not void

in my experince synthetic oils giving me bit better fuel avg, very smooth engine sound and better acceleration

A manufacturer spec reliable brand of mineral oil (regular oil) would be as good as anything. Make sure you change your oil-filter on every oil change. Dont take the risk of draging the 700 ~ 800 ruppay wala oil filter upto 10k (or two oil changes) in Pakistan.

These cars usually come with synthetic oil inside the engines used before.

Dunya agay jaa rahi hai hum bhi chalay jayein tou no harm I guess?

And Honda as per my knowledge now recommends only synthetic oil for the new civic; city ka pata nahin but dealers do suggest even for that
