The car has been discovered by a gentleman who has already exported several vehicles out of Pakistan. He exported Rehan's split window bus to the UK and it is presently up for sale. TheSamba.com :: VW Classifieds - 1967 Splitscreen camper volkswagon

My source is Rehan and he has promised to send me the pictures. I just hope that the bug does not get exported like the other cars. I am sure there are other cars still stored away in sheds and havelis..just a question of having time and resources to follow the leads.

 I suddenly have a bad, bad feeling about this.......

 Its sad to note that gems can be exported out of this country while we struggle to get even teensy weensy bits n parts (leave alone complete cars) into the country and usually end up paying Customs Duties through our noses.

ok guys.....received an interesting call from an associate member of VCCCP saying that another split window has been discovered in Karachi.....he said the owner says the top was chopped off to make it a convertible by the previous owner. He said he could take me to this guys house to see the car if I wished..........I jumped on the offer and he came to pick me up in his latest BMW suv X5 or something whatever you call it.....went to house off Khayaban-e-Badar & Sehr. House was full of new exotic cars....the guy said the old VW is in the backyard......lo behold!!!!!! it turned out to be a Javaid Ibrahim creation, a VW fiber glass buggy.

the buggy was based on a 1965 model.....the owner told my friend that he has a quaid-e-azam ke zamani kee VW and he presumed it had to be a splitty

I can see traces of filler on most of the panels which means the car is touched up here and there. Let me know if I have got it wrong as thats what it shows in pics.

Except for the right front fender, roof and maybe the doors, the rest of the car needs a paint job....and since you cant have 2-3 panels with ratrod look and the rest in new paint, I suggest go for a complete resto to preserve the car as the rust has penetrated the metal itself, i.e. its not superficial rust. Let's talk about this on your thread and lets see what others have to say.

Not exactly the real prototype - but it maybe a production which still would have very very close resemblance to the prototype.

Im on the hunt for the white split window beetle I saw in Nazimabad, finally getting somewhere as of 1 hour ago.

yesterday we had a small meeting of sorts regarding the revival of the VCCCP Islamabad chapter. it had a nice turn out and we hope to have more meetings like this so that the chapter becomes firmly established. it is my humble request to all classic cars owners of rwp/isb to please join the 20th march Pakwheels gtg in F9 park (hot shots parking lot) at 3 pm onwards with their cars so that we can set this ball rolling.

Well here goes my hope of digging out another split beetle in Pakistan...

I got the lead 4 months back from Lahore that there is a old 'ANKH wali beetle in Sahiwal' with Mr. Nisar Bazmi, since December I am serching for bazmi sb 'Not the famous song writer' in Sahiwal courts / streets / you name it. It was only last week that I became successful in locating Bazmi sb who told me the true story that YES his dad still owns the BEETLE ... which is not a split :o not even an oval however a 1959 deluxe RHD, driven from Austria to Pakistan by his dad who still drives the car as his daily runner! :)

It was good talking to Bazmi sb nonetheless as his dad has maintained the car well for all these years and did want some help in getting him parts for his dads car etc and I introduced & welcomed him to VWCOP.

I am glad I didnt claim that this was the first split window beetle or the only one. The original owner of the car late Jaleel Ahmed had told me that this was the first beetle that came to Pakistan. He also told me that VW started its sales operations from 1953 launching the 'Oval'. Some senior VWCOP members tell me that this is the only split window that they know of in Pakistan. Since starting work on this car many people have claimed to have known a split window other than this.....I am also searching from whatever lead I get, my friends doing the same here good luck to all of us. Finding another splitty would be fantastic and would in no way undermine the status of this car. Like I said earlier, 'more the merrier' and my Splitty wouldnt mind a few sibblings.

all fenders now in shape. Work will start on the doors today. Cant wait for the body to get finished with denting so that I can bring it home. Chassis should have been done first but we changed our plan as we wanted to display the splitty as is at the VCCCP show.

I need two parts at the earliest ,,

bonnet lock and engine lid lock ... I think pre 1966 is identical and will fit
