@ work has restarted on the splitty....barring the external body, all areas are now in primer. Muntazir and my painter Zahoor will now work on it together from Monday to finish the body in primer.....I should be able to get the body shell at my house in ten days time where it will be prepared for final paint. Chassis floor is still pending and I hope we are able to do that while the shell is being painted. Engine issues are sorted out too except that I need to urgently order a gaskit set. Also a frame to body rubber.

Great!

I have come across a retired VW part dealer who still has some 6V brand new NOS old stock items, like Hella relays, bulbs, etc.. he also as NOS VW main beguns for 1100cc engine..
I also got hold of a key less T handle for opening the deck lid, it's correct for the early ovals don't know if its correct for your 1952 split. Let me know if I can be of help in the project by any means.

key less T handle is good for a late model split, I 'll check if its ok for mine. You have been a great help already and I 'll take it all that you can offer .... I 'll be in Peshawar on Friday next....will be there for 2 days....

lot of cleaning, scrubbing, sanding and denting has been going on the splitty for the past few days......planning to bring the body shell home tomorrow....while muntazir does the frame, the painters will prepare the body for final coat pf paint...here are a few pics. Seeing the rust on it was heart breaking. I am hardly on talking terms with the denter ....

I agree with you and thats what I wanted.....since the denter was not working on it I got pissed off and stopped going there.....I had also gotten very busy and was away from Pakistan for almost a month...when I got back I went straight there and got this shock. However, it was just surface rust and all clean and shiny now.

not to worry Reezvan....I took these pics 3 days ago and last three days two guys have been doing nothing but cleaning....will primer it in my presence once the car is home tomorrow inshallah.

I wanted to pull my car out of there and look for somebody else to finish it...then had a chat with Muntazir who can be very greedy most of the times and have somehow got him back on the car.

I am still in two minds either to let him work on the frame or I gove it to somebody else. Sending it to Babar in Isb is also in my mind....all depends how this a/h denter behaves in the next few days. But I have run out of patience with him.

Well! Splitty is home so I should be happy, but not happy with denter's work though Muntazir has exceptional qualities as a panel beater and yet the car still needs a lot of attention. He says he will finish the car once he has done the frame and the car is back on it. Till then I 'll prepare the panels for painting.

You will have to make a tough choice between Muntazir and Babar. Muntazir has already given you his share of frustration. Hope you dont end up running around in circles chasing Baber. Knowing your options are limited, this panel beater of yours is playing pranks. If I were you, I would come to terms with Muntazir (under close supervision) even if it means paying him more than what he deserves. Shipping to and from Isb may not be a good idea. Not to mention the costs / hassles involved.

I agree with what @razaksyed had to say about sending the frame over to Baber in ISD.

You should consider focusing on getting frame done here in KHI for many reasons. Cost/hassel/lack of your direct supervision and the scariest/worst part - frame being damaged during transportation, being a few.

But then....the job on the body is tricky but not as tricky as the one on frame. Achieving flawless frame measurements is crucial than any job on the body itself. And it can be argued that Baber has been there, done it so many times to do it perfectly as compared to Muntazir and then the added advantage of the fact that the frame & mechanicals can be attended by Khalid at Westridge.

Tough Call!

If I were you, I would load the frame on a transport and ride on with it to ISD to Babar. Leave it in Romano's supervision from there on (both for Baber's job and Mechanical job at Khalid's) and ride back to KHI with the done frame personally. Just my two cents worth.

ideally it should be done in Karachi as I wouldnt want to transport the body without the frame......Muntazir will do it I am sure .. some more greasing of his palms I guess should make him tick. Body is now coated with a coat of primer except bonnet and front qtr panels...2 months air compressor motor has packed up. Met the previous owner of this car who has promised to dig out more parts....says he found the one missing door handle with key. I 'll pick it up today.

Just had a long chat with Muntazir.....following is decided

frame - one side which is still original but 30% moth eaten floor will be repaired and retained. The other side will be fabricated...and installed.

Muntazir will be motivated with moolah and he will get some tomorrow morming. Once the chassis / frame is ready, the front and rear end will be reinstalled and it will be made roll ready.

Body wil be remounted on the frame and will go through another round of final denting....quite a few areas still need attention i.e. except the fenders the rest of the body needs to be finished. Doors, bonnet and engine lid will be alligned and the painter will take it on from there. Some pics....
