This bug had been stranded for many many years, in fact decades so one floorpan half and the heater channel internals had rusted away........look closely...

The original 'split case' gearbox....... Pre 1960 bugs had this kind of gearbox....the first gear was non-synchro.....interesting to drive.....

One of the original heater pipes had survived after all these years....

50s bugs had this kind of ducting from the heater boxes to the body. Later bugs got the plastic accordion type connectors.....

Now this thing in the centre of the tunnel nose had me stumped......what was it?????

Could'nt be the choke cable.....what was it????

While the bug rested on its side, got some interesting shots to show a couple of things....

The frame head needs work......

Ustaad jee trying to check for any remaining bolts tying the body to the 'pan...

Soon concluded that only one bolt remained......the big one holding the body to the rear suspension frame......

Since it was not possible to practically approach the bolt with the car on the side, it was decided to bring the car on its own wheels and then undo the bolt before finally lifting off the body....

We almost strike disaster!!

The body comes all the way loose from the front end.....only one bolt holds it in place from the rear.....note the body has come to the right hand side of the car (our left hand side in the pic)....hafta be careful now.....

Mohsin bhai sprung into action and risked life and limb to avert the impending disaster.......pushing the car to the side so it can be safely landed inside the tight space the right way up

In case people are wondering what I was doing.....I was the man behind the camera......had good reason not to lend a helping hand though I wish I could......had run a Marathon yesterday (with no practice at all) AND finished, so my back, legs and hips were hurting like anything.....could hardly carry my own weight......
