Here comes the DIY time during the whole quarantine & lock-down period.
Installed fresh steering column cover assy as the old one was broken from the lower/under side & whenever passing through some deep waters like 4- 5 inch during the rainy season, water used to seep into the pedal area near clutch mostly.
I was thinking that its due to missing inside cover of steering column but after some research came to know that this 7th gen corolla aka indus came with only external/outside steering column cover.(part number 45025-12180)
So I picked one from Shoba bazar
Yellow encircled one is the fresh cover, while the other one is old that came out of the car. You can clearly see that the old one broken from the lower/under side while the fresh one is all intact.
Removing the old cover was the most difficult task, upon removal got to know that one of the bolt is broken & some sh*thead mechanic ustaad left it as it is. Take a look ...
Getting rid of that broken bolt was another challenge for a noob like me and the working space was really tight in that area, my hand weren't reaching there completely, got alot of cuts & scrubs on my arms
It was almost impossible to work on that broken bolt from the engine bay so we decided to work out things from the interior side. And things got slightly easy on us.
Before
After
Bad boys which helped me getting this mess sort out.
After drilling the broken bolt out, I used a thread-tap (aka moose in local lingo) to fresh out the threads.
Feedback:I have driven the car thrice during heavy rainfalls & NO water seepage issue now. Alhamdolillah
