Restoration Of Original/Specimen Spitfire

Lower holes were very bad and were done by welding torch instead of drill.surrounding area was also burnt...

We had to make small pieces of sheet metals to repair/close these nasty holes.

No major work but small detailing.....right headlight hole.

Your post was an honour for me in this thread dear.PLEASE do not feel bad what you asked.In a way it was good for me that I spoke my heart out which I normally cant.....
I feel all you Pakwheel brothers as my real ones and spend most of my time with you brothers (online) than anyone else.
These spitfires were small toys to play with before But now I value them a lot .Reason is that these two small British roadsters became a source to find wonderful brothers like you So I am able to share my joys and sorrows...
Please PLEASE do not feel bad for asking anything....
Believe me that reading your posts and replying them is the main /primary pleasure of these projects....Rest is secondary.

Found a small tear on the top side of right headlight hole (very typical of these cars) so decided to weld it with a fine welding tip.....

And welding surrounded by wet cloth to avoid heating nearby area....

Reasons...when metal is heated ,it is more prone to rust..

Similar small tear was found on left side and it was welded too..

Now we turned our attention towards underside of the car....

Some previous owners jacked up the car at wrong places resulting in bending of front cross members..

Although it was looking fine from outside (visible side)...And no one was supposed to see what is underneath but my habit of useless detailing forced me to rectify this as well...

Due to very small place underneath and quite thick metal of chassis front cross member,it was not possible to use hammer,neither any puller could pull these bends out ,so we decided to make a special tool for this purpose......something like this.

It was made from a broken leaf spring.....very strong.

Our special tool in action.....Rectifying all those bends of front cross member caused by improper jacking by some previous owners....

This lever/tool really proved to be very successful in pulling out all those dents/bends.

And original shape of the cross member was restored...note that we always jack up these cars using wooden block between chassis and jack......

Similar case with left front cross member which was also bent by improper jacking.
