The accelerator cable and pedal has finally been installed.

The key for the decklid has been 'mis-placed', have told a locksmith to come and make a new key for the lock tomorrow.

The accelerator cable will then be hooked up with the carburetor and then we'll hopefully take Blue for it's first post engine restoration test drive.

Hoping for the best.

Glad its finally gonna be ready. Better late than never. I guess it will be well worth it after all you've been through in getting this car back on the road. Determination really paid off in your case. At least you didn't give up as many others would have. Congrats!!!!

I have papers in May, June and July. No summer vacation for me this year sadly.

While installing the accelerator cable, the mechanic saw loads of dirt and soil inside the spine/tunnel. Took it all out, it was more than 4-5 handfuls!

Upon further inspection he saw that the shift rod bush was all messed up and was missing it's o-ring. The coupler bushings were also cracked and all dried up.

He told me that he'll go to Plaza tomorrow afternoon and source out the bushings. I gave him the amount which he asked and told him to please buy the bushing by tomorrow so we can further proceed.

Mechanical work left:

• New coupler bushes fitting
• New shift rod bushing fitting
• Fuel tank fitting
• Fuel filler pipe fitting
• Fuel ventilation pipe fitting
• Fuel line (tank to carburetor) fitting
• Connecting accelerator cable to carburetor

So, I called up my mechanic after lunch and asked whether he went to Saddar or not. He said he did but Plaza was closed due to someone who was killed earlier.

Then I called up Iqbal bahi (Cheap Autos) I asked him if he had the bushes in cost he said yes, I asked whether Saddar is open or not. He said it's been open since morning. The mechanic was lying.

Prices of the bushes as follows:

• Shift rod bush: 100
• Coupler bushes (pair): 150

I had to go all the way to Saddar but it was worth it. Afterwards went to the mechanic and gave him the bushes. I knew he was lying but I did not bother to ask him why he lied.

So, hopefully the bushes will be fitted by tomorrow. The mechanic said that half of the pipe that the accelerator cable goes through is missing, is there such a pipe in the tunnel? Can anyone explain this?

There is a metal pipe inside the tunnel through which the cable goes. I'm not sure but i think there is another section of pipe near the rear axle which is attached to the metal pipe and its other end comes behind the fan shroud.

Just went thru the last posts......had visited the garage a few days ago and saw the progress listed here. 

Yes, there are metal pipes inside the tunnel to route the cables thru. If you need a detailed view of this, go thru Mohsin Bhais Split bug thread, you can see the center tunnel opened there showing all the pipes.

I was shown the rusted out pipes, sections were missing. Good that they would be replaced otherwise your accelerator would never have operated smoothly and the bug would have been perpetually snapping up accelerator cables. And the cable would be nearly impossible to install with the section missing.

Hope the bug is completed asap. Do keep visiting the garage regularly. Good luck.
