Restoration story of my Spitfire convertible

Now some modification/improvement of the original design...adding a roof to it...
For this,I found steel angle iron unsuitable and decided to use Aluminum angle iron instead....a little bigger.
Searching these items is another story....collecting all these things also requires a lot of efforts and time.

Used the same flat head bolts first but after wards replaced them with split rivets...

Almost complete...in place...the nuts you see on the top side were replaced by rivets giving smooth finish inside because all inside area is to be covered with leather/synthetic leather,what ever we choose for the seats and door cards in matching color....

After bolting in place,I noticed that left side was a little lifted...
some checking..

After checking came to know that the original bolt was broken in place and some previous owner made another hole above the original to fit the glove box....

Some careful drilling to remove bolt without striping the threads

We are only using it as a duplicate sample to check fittings etc....

Raees felt that the "LIP" is a little wide and fitting is a little difficult...so marking to cut the unwanted area...

Holes were also moved a little bit inside with the help of round file...
These holes are to fit front steel/padded black strip...

After that little modification....fitted again....
The bolts you see were removed and replaces with split rivets....

Nice n clean fit and very STRONG to last a life time.....
The nuts/bolts you see with the hinge were also replaced with split rivets....

note that the flat head screws are flushed nicely with the hard board....

Raees fitting the roof of second glove box as I told you that we made two for both spitfires....

Now we came to the driver's side glove which was a little smaller in size but almost same in construction...
front steel/padded bar removed by drilling through rivets...
This was intact but out of shape due to age...
