Restoring Honda City 2008

We had a 2008 Honda City lying dead for past 3 years in our family belongs to my uncle. I had my eyes on it since it stalled, but they didnt want to sell it.

Finally they agreed to get it fixed.

The car had a accident resulting in a leaked radiator, heating up, and finally ending up dead.

Picked her up 2 weeks ago on 14th Feb.

The plan is to restore it fully and return it back to them.

Il try to update the thread as much as possible. Looking for positive and negative/critical feedback to help it restore it better.

Things to do in line.

Replace the engine assembly
a New Radiator
Overhaul the clutch
Overhaul/service transmission
Clean the fuel tank
The Airconditioning needs a over hauling as well a new Compressor and a Condensor, Not sure about the Coil and other linings, The Blower however is okay.

Get it running

Once done from the mechanical works, a complete dent paint job, and any other thing that needs to be fixed.

Day 1 15th feb

Filled air in tires to move her around, preparing to take the engine out

Took out the engine, clutch, foundations all in very bad condition.

Cleaned the engine bay

New assembly, in place. The car hiccups while starting, replacing injectors, installed new injectors. But the engine had too much of tappet noise. Il add videos.

Replace the engine assembly again.

First startup on the first engine replaced 20th Feb.

22nd Feb, shes finally alive. Alhamdulillah, just found out the alternator is dead too.

Cleaned the fuel tank, added new fuel, fuel isnt avalible in open cans. Took out some from my car.

If radiator is leaked i would advise you to get new radiator and pour Honda Blue coolant in it. Ensure thermostat valve is in place. Also use Honda 5W30 engine oil with Honda oil and air filters. It will return good fuel average. Also for manual transmission use Honda Genuine MTF it would take 2 liters.

nice. from where in karachi was the engine assembly procured? is it same 1.3 or 1.5? also, what do you mean by new injectors - kabli or new?

Yes I forgot to mention, this was the first thing to do. We purchased a new radiator too.

Since the car is front hit, the chasis radiator fitting everything needs to be redone. We have made the fan direct and the radiator for now has tap water only.

And the engine oil we used is 10-40 for initial 500kms so the engine can be cleaned. We would later change it to the usual 10-30 or 5-40 synthetic probably

Fixed some wiring, turned on all lights.

The car is at the denter now. Once the dent paint job is done, it will goto the mechanic again. Minor tweeks, brakes, axels would be checked once we do some running.

The engine is procured from sheirshah, the original engine is L12A which 1200cc. This engine doesn't comes to Pakistan as scrap.

So scraps engines are either L13 or L15. Keeping it simple opted for L13 only. This engine is 1339 or 1332 CC. I need to recheck orignal figures.

Yes the replacement injector rail is used/kabuli as well. We might replace it with brand new later If needed.

Replace all link rods. Bushes, replaced all four shock absorbers. before putting the car down on wheels.

So literally a entire new suspension. Only the axels need to be checked now. Will do so once it's running

The front cross member was purchased from sheirshah aswell.

27th feb, everything in place the front end.

The rear left seemed to be a bike hit but was actually a pole hit maybe or something really heavy hit it. The rear left had to be pulled out aswell. Dont have before and after pictures. Only after it was pulled out.

Never knew there where frame machines in Pakistan! Honda parts are pretty expensive so do your research before procurement of parts.

You should know where to look for

I have purchased all body parts Malaysian made, Used car parts are crazy priced. Finding the bonnet for this car was a pain. had a hard time finding the bonnet.

Bilal Gunj Lahore is some how alot cheaper then karachi scrap parts market. But procuring from there can be a pain.

This guy first sent me all the parts same day, Once i returned the master Switch to get it replaced its been a week he has been saying aj kal. Lets see if he sends me a replacement or not.
