What I was comparing with was what had to be done with a widescreen rubber SORROUND and not a "sorrowing" ( not a wiper either!) when fitting a windscreen.....but even then, looking at these pics, i see was way off!

Hope the tips Xulfiqar has given have helped

In a couple of days I'll post pictures of this same location with the new rubber so a comparison could be made.

I have never tried to post a video on this thred. So here goes, Actual video is a bit longer. I have compressed and trimed it to reduce its size so that it could be shared. The location is my garage where the lighting is not the best so excuse the dark footage. This was uploaded to VIMEO. Hope it works.

Yahoo success!! Now the next one will be of the car outside. Will do that after the rubber work is done. Urge other restorers to do the same, i.e. add videos. It adds another dimension to the viewing pleasure.

vee eight, when fitting the rear and front glass of an old benz or any european origin car you need a soft putty to seal the area and a rope to pull the rubber, the shiny finishers are then automatically sucked in as the rope pulls the rubber channel over the body lip. old VWs are like that too (no caulking)

Spend the day in pressing/forcing the rubber step bead inserts into their respective channels. Even managed to hurt my hand in the process. Despite the KY jelly the job needed a fair bit of strength. Hammer and screwdriver played an important role.

Pictures are attached. In my garage the light on the roof lights up the passenger side but casts a shadow on the driver's side. Therefore the picture of the passenger side is taken without a flash. You can make out the reflections of the garage light in the paint of the running board.

The next two pictures are of the drivers side. The flash has picked up the dust etc. You can see that the defects highlighted earlier are no longer there and of course the step bead rubber inserts are renewed

Thank you for your post and I am always eager to learn form others.

However it would be nice if the reader accepts what the writer is saying rather than challenging facts. Mainly because the writer is explaining something he actually did in the hope that the reader may learn from another's experiences. It seems that I have to show you the pictures of what I am referring to in order to clear the misunderstanding. I bought this Meguiar's system from overseas along with over 100Kg of other automotive care products (enough to open my own shop:).

The system is Meguiar's NOT Mothers. BTW I also have a few of the Mother's products too. I think Meguiar's is a bit better compared to Mother's. But this is my personal oppinion. Even in Meguiar's range the better sytem is the one called Gold Class. I hope I don't need to put pictures of that one too. I will get #26 wax of Meguiar's on my next trip to the shops. Thanks for the heads up on this product.

Salam sir your project is turning out great simply MASHALLAH , I hope you don't mind but my experience with meguiars deep crystal system isn't good ,if you are doing by hand or da or rotory the deep crystal polish will leave back white spots I checked with Usman bahi aka vague_one @ pakwheels he has the same experience , secondly bro I would like to suggest you get meguiars m series m105 ultra cut compound with m205 ultra finishing polish and try getting yourself meguiars 16 it's a old school wax better then meguiars 26 in my personal point of view and try getting meguiars m21 syenthatic sealent aswell

Sir, that sounds like good advice to me. I too did not get good results with deep Crystal Polish when I used it on my black BMW 540i. I only tried it once on the Beemer and never again. However when I tried it on the Jag, for some reason it has been very, very good. Don't ask me why!

BTW, are Meguiars M Series M105 Ultra Cut Compound, M205 Ultra Finishing Polish, Meguiars 16 and Meguiars M21 Syenthatic Sealant easily availavle? Any pointer where I should look in the Pindi/Islo area

^i would like to answer that, its because old single stage paint loves oils, i keep oil rich waxes, glazes and polishes for my single stage painted vehicle.

M7 glaze by meguiars and M26 are a popular combo for old single stage paint (M7 being as old as single stage paint itself and so being designed for it), and if you need a compound then m80 is the solution for that, it too is very oily. regular compounds will just get sucked into the paint and wouldn't give enough working time.

The M21 sealant is available with 3m detailers in lahore and karachi, but i don't think the rest of those things are so easily available. M16, M26, M105 (though thats useless for you, too strong cut) and m205 can be brought from pw members Ausl and MGK, they can arrange. but for such old cars, i don't advise changing the wax too often, things don't always go so smooth.

My reason to support M26 wax is that it has the least chance of disturbing the paint as it contains no cleaners or anythin. You have hands on experience with the paint so you can understand that these paints seem to give you feedback unlike the new clear coated ones.

I would love to see your Jaguar in person some day. Are you in Islamabad or Pindi. VEEeight is a very dear friend of mine, and we have discussed your car. He actually asked me to post my 1956 Vauxhall on Pakwheels. Will do so soon. I have restored a 1980 Toyota Corolla, and a 1976 Jeep Mutt, in addition to a 1963 Vespa 150, and a Honda CB400, which i do drive , mostly on Sundays. My next project is my 1969 VW 1200. It's the best hobby one can ask for. But your project is remarkable, since you are doing everything yourself. I wish I had that talent, but unfortunately I don't.
