Reviving GS500e

so a cousin of mine had this bike
catching dust and rust since almost 1-2 years ( Its a 1997 model, made a in japan one.later models are spanish)
reason fuel tank leaked. it was given for repairs and my cousin left the country.on his return, the person was un traceable.
leaving behind a bike without tank on it. my cousin also seem to have lost interest. i requested him to give it to me if i am able to find a tank for it. He confirmed bike was in running condition.
note i have no experience with bikes as such. have a scooter for local runs only and its 70cc.

came accross famous BAshir Ustaad of Tipu road's phone #
was a very old thread but surprisingly the number worked!
so he didnt have a tank in hand. Also read here and around that he is very expensive but one of the best guys..said saw a tank but was repaired.etc didnt sound to excited to work on my old bike
Then a friend gave me number of a guy in G10 imran also famous for bikes
apparently he left the place and his shagird Shaaka ustaad sits there. He also didnt hv tank but said can be sourced. he gave reference to a person far away and asking 15k.
then through a friends reference met this Guy Adil in Bahria who assured if tank n/a he will find a way.retrofit or modify.
a uni student doing bikes part time.Young n promising dude is open for challenges.. he was making an ATV with a 1000cc bike engine. anyways he said keep roughly 15k in mind for tank alone.
tired of not anyone able to show me the tank i called my ex colleague who is a big distributor of bikes now for help
he Reffered me to Babar ustaad near liaqat bagh, i called him and he assured he has tank and parts for the gs500.
i called my cousin to send me the bike. Bike was sent on heavy goods transport. cost 5k lhr to rwp,chip on fender.rest was all good. bike reached workshop. i dropped the bike and haed back home.he said this will be ready very soon

please note my cousin lost the bike key as well

i asked him to wrap the tank to save time
i kept calling for updates daily but when no solid progress and weekend came i went to see progress myself

ustaad took advance of 10k from me for oil adn stuff but did not arrange battery
i ran and got a new battery

Going with MKBH might have been a lot less hectic for you but the progress seems to be good so far.

ustaad started the bike as i was standing on his head and kept putting back the things
he had dropped the fuel tank to wrap a lil far off.
when he bought it back it was a drop scene for me
i never saw the tank and blind trusted the guy.
tank had few dents and weld marks.and was wrapped as it is.
controlled myself because
this was cheapest tank quoted, 10k.......i had been quoted even 50k by a person saying dubai say mangwa daita hon.
and because he was resourceful and had parts of this bike in hand
just to explain...this petcock was made by combining parts of 2
so was the fuel lid of fuel tank

another drop scene
he was unable to find the rear bracket under the tank which holds it.i was pissed and tired.asked him to tie the tank up with tie zip.and came home

was crazy and funny
i felt bike was heavy
clutch was heavy
and power was ridiculous
kidhar 70 & 125 lift the wheel if u floor them
while this bike burns rubber/tails in 3rd gear

Pls ATGATT and practice it on empty roads a lot. You need to give it the respect it deserves although i am aware you are a mature person but when you are riding everything changes. Again ATGATT

the sight of tank was bothering me
and later at night fuel started leaking
it was from petcock.
the fuel pipe slipped down a bit and couldnt get it back in place.
so i drained out all remaining fuel,took off the tank. next morning went back to ustaad asking for the tank bracket before i could hand the tank to painter and install everything back in place. after a little struggle ustaad found out the bracket from all the bike parts he had around

tank parts complete.dropped it at a painter. who said will try to dent else use steal potein as filler to cover weld marks/dents etc

i started sanding. dry and wet.

so the bike had seepage of oil and fuel.on top of that bike front tire locked and slipped at speed of 20km/hr only
making me realize its old hard and trash (the tires)
went to ustaad.he changed fuel pipes.removed car fuel pipes and replaced with vespa ones. Oil leak was clutch seal.
luckily tire shop was walking distance from him shope. Pakistan Tire shop Murree road.
got front tire for 7000 size is 110 70 17
gave ustaad 2k for oil/petrol leak fix and front tire (taking it out off the bike and getting it back)

no more leaks so far.going good Allhumdullilah, should hopefully be getting rear new tire next month. its another 10,000 rup

since the bike was parked for some long time I would advise to review brake pads, service calipers, remove all old brake line fluids put new fluids new ring seals,
If I were you I will also check Shock absorber seals and oil levels so they don't run dry and cost even more in future to just revamp.
Use inline feul filter for tank so carbs get neat clean feul and dont get bad on longer run.

main axles or chain ko bhi I hope review ker liya ho ga?

I would suggest to owner to replace the front fork oil and install gaiters/boots on the exposed stanchions to keep them in good shape, I think they exist as Suzuki genuine parts too.
