Road Conditions from GILGIT to SKARDU? 2017

Assalam o Alaikum Guys,

I am planning to drive from Islamabad to Gilgit and Skardu, now I know road till Gilgit is fine and no issues in driving, but I really want to know if its possible for me to drive from Gilgit to Skardu? I have seen pictures of the road, it looks pretty dangerous.

P.S. I have been driving to places like, Shogran, Naran, Thandiyani, Kalaam previously. Also I will be with my family. wife, 2 kids and my mother.

waiting for your valuable feedbacks, as I am not getting latest information any where about the roads from GILGIT TO SKARDU.

Gilgit Skardu road is in pretty bad shape. takes around 8 hours to cover 171 kms. you can drive easily if u r a sensible driver

I just came back from naran i was gonna go further but my cars oil change was due...but i did gather info from locals and the friends who went there and were coming back when i reached naran...they said its all motorway type road just one few rough patches of less than 50 meters yes i mean 50 meters...the only issue is right after naran there is a bridge you will have to ship your car by the river over something that is easily availible there...they also said the bridge must have been opened by now

Im also planning for Skardu in Eid vacations. I will be on vehicle FAW V2 --1300cc Car with 3 persons.
Let me ask my queries..!!
Will my car reach Skardu easily?
It will be easy to reach out Skardu via Naran/Babusar top?
How much time it will take me to reach Chillas from Babusar top?
How much time it will take to reach Jaglot from Chillas?
From jaglot , Skardu will be on 8 hours drive?
Timeline for me is 27th june 12:30 Am till 3rd July 6Am in morning. So will it be good to go Skardu or should I have to visit Hunza instead of Skardu?
If Hunza then how much time to reach Hunza from Jaglot?
If I start my journey 9Am from Naran, Can i reach Skardu in eve around 5:30 or 6?
Answers will be highly appreciable.

Any car can make it and i dont knw abt timing as i havent been there...actually i know is if you leave early in the moening u can reach abusar too before dawn easily

My cousin lives in Gilgit and travels frequently to Skardu. 3 hrs to tb bhi ni lgte they jb road theek thi. tb bhi ye sft atleast 4.30 hrs ka tha

In this time period you can travel both hunza and skardu but in a bit of a hurry. Yes Faw can go to Gilgit Skardu and Hunza through Babusar or KKH. CHillas to babusar is around .3.5 - 4 hrs. Jaglot from Chillas 2 hrs. Jaglot to Skardu 7-8 hrs. Jaglot to Hunza 2-3 hrs. Naran to skardu will take around 13-15 hrs

I h ha ave been to skardu and astor, in 2008. Skardu road is narrow but doable with any car

Do you have a plan to visit deosai?

Yes Deosai was in my plan. But I will be with my family , So thinking Skardu trip will be quite hectic as compared to Hunza. Coz Road of Hunza from Jaglot is in much better condition than that of Skardu. As Hunza will be on 2 hours distance from Jaglot n Skardu is on 8 hours drive. Bit confused as I personally want to visit Skardu but time is very short.

So Hunza? Can I reach hunza in 1 day? If I start my journey at 3am in night from Rawalpindi. Can I reach Hunza in Eve around 4?

Yes you can reach hunza but at around 10 pm and it's risky if you are the only driver

@travel4ever Sir I will be the only driver. From Naran till Hunza It will take 13 hours? As I am hoping to reach Naran in 6-7 hours maximum.

Don't forget to add time of 3 to 4 stopovers during the journey
