alto is non efi and neither it has point and condenser its equipped with CDI.... and yea its very economical and ac is very good ... better then cultus .... i know most of the guys wont agree with me but i am telling you on the basis of personal exp.... i have 2 altos at the moment kept a coure and cultus too did not like them both ... bought alto in 2004 brand new and used it 160,000 Km till date in all those years and mileage just changed tyres once and tuning 5 or 6 times that it

guys alto is good as per as initial pick(not that good) but
brakes are rubbish
mileage is not that good
handling is poor
and above all u have to maintain it under suzuki dealers......local mechanics kabara nikal dey *** us ka.....

EFI say gari ko wesay faida kiya hota hai I have no idea but I kn0ow people like it

an EFI Engine has better Fuel Economy than non EFI Engine

a 1000CC Suzuki Alto has crap average on Petrol
a 1300CC Honda City gives much much higher petrol average
a 1300CC Corolla gives higher average than Alto even on Petrol

PS: Cultus also sucks on fuel average even thoughts its EFI
the charm of Cultus and Alto lies in their Mileage on CNG which is good

No, brother it never gave me a single problem.
Yesterday, I got the clutch plates replaced that too was my own mistake.
I was washing the engine bay and water ran into the gearbox.

So,if you are a YES man and do not demand too much from a car and don't drive it very fast, then Alto is no doubt a good car for you.

I was advising you Cultus over Alto due to bigger cabin space.
If you don't drive too much with family, then Alto is suitable for you.

My last advice is stick to the OEM tyre and Rims size.
The biggest mistake people do is that they install 13inch rims in Alto and then they start complaining about suspension.

By the way, Alto's stock rim size is 12.

Now let me share some realities about Alto, the current alto available in Pakistan is a combination of "body" of 5th generation (HA12) 660cc Alto delivered in Global market and "Engine" of Suzuki Potohar Jeep. I would call this combination a Jugaar by Pak-Suzuki..... Major disadvantages of this combination is (mentioned by other posters as well)

Bad road grip.
No body balance at high speeds.
Bad fuel economy as engine is designed for a jeep.
Pathetic braking.

However it has advantages of:

Can be used for towing broken down vehicles.
More powerful in steep hills.

My family owns an Alto for the last 7 years. The car is highly reliable, excellent AC, great ground clearance, cheap upkeep including fuel, decent resale, etc. Ours has 170K km on the clock and still going strong.

The negatives are poor brakes, horrible pick, overall poor driving experience. If you are driving on motorway, just mind your own business, dont think about overtaking a decent car, you will be embarassed. The performance usually goes from bad to worse if you add a CNG.

If you are mostly driving in the city and you are looking for a work horse, Alto is a great choice. If your budget allows, I will suggest to go for a swift DX, I think its a quantum leap for 200-300k.

the best car made by suzuki so far is swift go for it. Its far more comfortable then alto/cultus. If you want to buy a 0 meter car then swift is the best choice among suzuki. Was not expecting something great like swift from suzuki.

mehran is more roomy than alto
i dnt think its ac works that well, seen 09/08 model alto with rol down windows in extreme temp
cultus is far betta than shi**y alto or mehran, spacious & ac works well

can anyone please guide me if i should go for japanese alto 2006, 2007 or 2008? i had planned getting new alto but eversince i saw the japanese alto shape i feel more prone towards it, moreove i want to get this withing a month while dealers take at least 2.5 months delivering it..since i don't know much about technicalities etc so need help!

Japanese alto much better in comfort and cabin size but has a spare part non availabality problem and the automatic version do not support CNG kit,, so you will have to rely on petrol only if you really want japanese buy the non automatic version drive with care because no spare part not even light casings are available.. plus this japanese version is way more cheeper then Pakistani verion

plus japanese alto has all the Euro II standards pre installed like air bags, emmision reducers etc...

Donot buy automatic version it do not suport CNG ... buy non autoomatic verison it work with CNG

I really appriciate that you guys give me a deep insight about 1000cc cars on Pakistani Roads and I am very happy that you all people did a great help for me to decide ...
From all the posts I recieved in this thread, alto and santro loosed my interest and I focused more on " CULTUS Vs Vitz " the Toyota vitz is a strong relable vehicle with all the youngster wants but has a expensive back up and expensive in price as well.. new import is above 10/11lac and I was not in mood to spend this high on just 1000cc small car like vitz...

So the last car in the row was cultus, so I choosed its EFI version (VXRi) in a black color (oh yeah baby (H)) and it is great ...

In market (I visited only jail road and queens Road) the demand was around 7.3 to 7.6 depending on the condition for 08/09 model ... I know its a bit high but thats market u know..

there is a famous Saying "The day you get something you will find its available cheap some where else"

I got it for 7.3 after hectic negotiation from Bari motors, and on very next day my friend told me he is selling his cultus as well ha hah ahahhah ...

but the one I got is VXRi thats a plus..

dear friends..........if u really wana money worth buying then forget this crap with no pwr window...no pwr stearing...no abs...no pwr head lights....no pwr mirrors......no fuel economy only does 8 to 10 km/ltr keeping in mind the absence of CNG. no comfort to drive....no space.

instead of waisting money on it go for this beautiful...luxury....economic....powr controlled with all above features wich are not in alto. c details in below link
