Sound Deadening at a Budget (Aliexpress)

Aoa Everyone,

Well I've used jumbolon foam in my khyber for sound deadening purposes. Have an old family owned 97 civic and I want to try this dampening sheets from aliexpress. I'd just like to know if they are a good budget option? I know that dynamat and STP will be a better option, but I feel like those are better suited for enthusiast level sound deadening.

Kindly share your views regarding these cheaper aliexpress alternative. If they can give over 30-50% performance compared to normal jumbolon foam, they might just be worth it.

I am planning on ordering these from aliexpress, if anyone knows a better product please do share the link.

Ah well, I've ordered the sheets, guess I'll find out myself if these budget oriented sheets are worth the money.

Do update here your feedback when you get them. I'm also looking for some economical solution.

The ad did not mention weight of product, that would give a good idea of it's effectiveness. I believe you might have to deal with customs for this product.

Yes I got these from AliExpress. Really happy with the quality, now that I've installed them and can speak about their effect as well as longevity.

This is the 3rd type. Also closed cell foam, but this one I haven't used at all yet and is still lying with me. I've planned to install it in the doors of my Civic Turbo but haven't gotten the time to do it for many months.

This is another product I've used, as I upgraded the speakers on my CL9 and have used this around those. Really helps to focus the sound of the stereo inside the car instead of 'leaking' around.

I also did DIY and it's not easy. Basically hit and trial but based upon your personal experience with your car where YOU know where the sound is coming from and block that. Also, I must add, that I've used all these products in conjunction with vibration dampers which I procured locally. But those are more expensive as I'm using branded ones.

Should I invest in vibration dampers?

In an ideal scenario you should invest in vibration dampers. But the problem is that they are expensive and heavy. So you need to really make sure that you make the best use of them otherwise you will not only be spending more money but burdening your car with a lot of weight. For example, I reckon that I have added about 15kg in terms of vibration dampers alone to one of my cars, even though I've tried to use them smartly.

Btw these sheets are similar to dynamat, do I really need vibration dampers with these? The internet terms dynamat as vibration dampers.

The ones at AliExpress are very lightweight and will not serve the purpose of vibration damping. While the vibration dampers available at AliExpress actually seem more expensive than the branded ones I buy. Dynamat is kind of an all in one as its heavy and thick, hence serves both the purposes of sound deadening as well as vibration damping. Vibration dampers are supposed to be installed directly on the metal body parts and sound insulation is supposed to be installed on top of the vibration dampers. So if you go ahead and install sound deadening you will not be able to install vibration dampers unless you remove that deadening (which is impossible without damaging the sound deadening material).

Sir kindly advise on engine noise deadening in my alto 2019

The engine noise is very audible inside the cabin

Kindly advise which areas i need to focus while applying such sheets as it seems that the noise is coming from the dashboard due to poor insulation underneath

I need to address the engine noise only
Kindly also advise the type of deadening sheet which will suffice.

The main source of engine noise inside the cabin should most likely be improper sealing of a connection running from engine through the firewall and inside the cabin.

Having said that, I've recently installed some sheets in the firewall of my car and they have made a difference. These are the sheets I got from AliExpress which I'm using on the engine firewall:

Do i need to remove the dash board to insulate the firewall?

I think there are chances of improper refixture of dash and possible squeak sounds thereafter.

No no, I meant the outside of the firewall where the engine is. Though installing this will be tricky as those are hard to reach areas.
