If you are talking about running generator on sui gas which is for "residential purposes" and on residential tariff; then it is I suppose "ILLEGAL." I don't know why mods are even allowing this topic on an open forum.

For your information;

After reading the Sui Gas warning in the newspaper I visited the sui gas office and met with the PRO and told him that I want to get my generator connection regularized. He did not know of any such procedure.

As for the legalities, stating "Illegal" is not sufficient gas companies should guide the consumers what is to be done.

If any one has got the generator connection regularized please share.

Domestic gas connections are only for "cooking, water heating and space heating" not for power generation. Please read your gas supply contract which you signed at the time of getting gas supply connection. Any use beyond that is "ILLEGAL" and gas company can disconnect the consumers gas supply connection if it finds so.

i truly respect your intention and value unfortunately we live in a state where even basic necessities have to be arranged by the consumer. Immorality is one of the quality traits followed indirectly or directly by almost everyone. Then again had we been angels, earth and solar system along with the universe would not be created.

I wouldn't be surprised at the remark of the gas company rep who probably did not bother going through the clauses in his appointment contract letter , let alone the sops defined in the procedure.

Shortage of gas , shortage of water , shortage of electricity... shortage of common sense and so forth ... have always been the norm.....If there is a compliance matter then it should be on a macro level especially with the rule makers.. let them be an example for the rule followers... Its a trickle down effect...

Getting back to the topic and avoiding opening up pandoras box, i belive jasco is the better brand with a decent price tag. They have a decent product line and a value proposition.

Morally we shouldn't be using CNG in cars too. That's also a waste.
I heard there's a court stay on using generators on gas. The court has allowed use of residential gas for use with generators until load shedding has been controlled. I also didn't see see any Ads or inspections from Sui gas people this year.

So which one did you find better apart from maintenance negligence on your part? I am talking about power output, consumption, noise, stability, features, etc.
I also have another question, how much gas pressure do you need for let's say 12kw consistent output? Is 2psi enough?

I have used KOHLER model RES-18 (3years & 3400 hrs). My experience is follows;

• all ok till 2000 hrs.
• cam drive gear broke at 2000 hrs due to stuck valve.
• Resurfacing of heads and new valves.
• smoke on starting
• at 3000 hrs started missing
• started consuming oil
• 1 cylinder plug wet with oil.

Lesson learnt;

3rd season and still going strong , giving me 26-28Amps on gas...neighbours are happy and I am happy for my decision as nothing went wrong so far except for the on-board engine alternator whose bearing gave way and I got it changed , no noise. I change oil at 04 months and its still ok.....

See the exhaust damage to plants, thats the mas it does to the environment and it uses 15-18Rs of gas / hour. (based on my rough calculation)
I was about to disclose all details on the thread that was started 2 years ago but one day I saw many scientists who had no practical knowledge of anything and were giving me opinions to buy chinese junk ... We also made another one for our second house and its cost was around 2,50,000/- with newer type of auto panel and better specifications. This included all wiring and stuff. I would have helped a lot of people here but somehow due to the attitude of certain graduates I stopped. Pakistan is full of critics in all avenues and I thought Pakwheels is free of em but after seeing the discussion leading to a race of "mujhe zyada pata hae" I eventually stopped posting information...

generator on gas is allowed for residence, it eats gas equivalent to max two burners on a stove, for commercial worlk it isnt allowed

This looks like DIY project but as long as it works it's the best thing. Even if it's producing 6kw he must be able to run 2 ACs and whole house load on it. Chinese 6kw generators widely available when converted to gas can produce a maximum of 4kw. Even on petrol I wouldn't ever put more than 5kw load on it.

yup its 10KVA probably, something around 6000Watts, on the motor its written max amps 32 or something, but who cares its working great. For a normal household and on gas its more than enough. Otherwise go ahead and spend something around 8 lac for something which eats another 1 lac per annum due to being substandard..
By the way my normal load is something around 17Amp with 01 Ac on forever.

Looking at current load shedding situation and future plans of the new Government it looks like we won't get rid of load shedding for another 3 years and I am assuming this year it will be worse. May be there's some relief next year.
So, in the light of that, I ask the experts what are things that we need to look at while getting a locally assembled gas generator. What are the best and recommended components as in motor, engine, governor, electronics and protection. I want to go for a 20kva local assembled generator so need recommendations on that.

On Serious Note...If You Gonna Run It On Petrol.......Think Before Getting One.....If Gas Then It Will Be Fine
