Well I was just going thru' u'r posts regarding EPS!! I think there is some hoax floated in regards of EPS. Its there all over the world. KINDLY refer my attached images (3no.s all jpg). This shall give you a clear picture regarding 'EPS"



First attachment shows the PS module u' all r' refering to. This is made by Mitsubishi for suzuki.
It has 3 connectors (refer second attachment) Further all connector pins are named respectively.
Last but not the least (refer my third attachment). This shall clarify doubts for all.
Now let me explain 1by1,
EPS is being used by me for past 8 years!.. with NIL maintainance. In general EPS is lightr than hyd-PS infact it can be operAted with single finger! It is much BETTER TECHnology & much SAFER compared to Hyd-PS. Perhaps thats why recently all new sereis of Benz , BMW, Honda, Chervelot etc are using EPS.
How ever there is one hypothetical problem!!
Some people dont like a very light steering... They just find it like a toy.!!
OTHERWISE its gem of a technology... beleive me.. coz i am automobiLe enthusiast but also a ROBOTIC hobyist (!!BY PROFESSION I AM ARCHITECT). EPS technology is sophisticated. It process tons of information for better results. THE GREEN connector is all wired from various sensors (refer Attachment-3).
***IMP**for those who were worried bou't SAFETY! PLS refer connector B4 & B3--- They are clutch outputs. Y-E-S '' AS VEHICLE SPEED INCREASES this magnetic clutch loosens MOTOR torque and ENSURE OUR SAFETY...HOPE AAB KUCH ITminan HUA ho.. further approximately at speed of 60 kmph this clutch disengages totally; again AAP KI HIFAZAT KE LIYE DOSTON".
OK' NOW 2nd HOAX'::
If u turn "FULL LEFT OR RIGHT AND CONTINUE HOLDING THAT WAY", the TORQUE sensor-1 commands maximum voltage to MOTOR ASSIST. BUT WHEN THIS MAX condition stays for more than 300 millisecond' a LOGIC controlled COMMAND is ISSUED to RESET TORQUE SENSOR-1... (clever heh) and simultaneously the SYSTEM looks into TORQUE SENSOR-2 for further USER variation (ie' if user has released the lock position or not).. BY 300 milliseconds the motor & motor controller circuit does get heated up... BUT FREINDS HAVE A CLOSER LOOK!!!! IF U' JUST UNSCREW THE eps CONTROLLER UNIT FROM EPS ASSEMBLY , U' WILL NOTICE THAT IT WAS FLUSHED WITH A THICK ALUMINIUM PLATE ON THE REAR OF CONTROLLER. THIS ALUMINIUM IS NOTHING BUT A "HEAT SINK"... YES THE LAST STAGE OF CIRCUIT CONSISTS OF 4 OR 6 igBT'S (KIND OF MOSFETS). THEY GET HOT BUT IT GETS DISSIPATED THROUGH ALUMINIUM PLATE QUICKLY.
PLS NOTE THAT ABOVE SAID CONDITION IS THE WORST CONDITION FOR HYD_PS system & IT SEEMS THIS IS THE REASON FOR ITS FAILIURE TOO..
MORE OVER THERE WERE TIMES WHEN HYD_PS System HAS BURSTED while holding the steering on complete left/RIGHT. AND B'coz of this danger they started providing mandatory pressure release valve within HYD-PS pump assembly.
Well HOpe u' all have understood about EPS by now. Sorry for loooong post.
*** IN INDIA THIS UNITS COSTS 4K APPROX. FOR WHOLE ASSEMBLY (THROUGH MARUTI SUZUKI). tHE CONTROLLER MODULE COSTS 2K APPROX.
iN INDIA VISHAY SEMICONDUCTORS MAKE THE CHIP USED IN CHERVELOT EPS. THE 78 PIN IC IS AROUND 550/- RS.
A CONTROLLER BASED ON THIS CHIP IS DEVELOPED BY POWTRONICS CHENNAI; IT IS FOR CHERVELOT & COSTS 2K- BUT SINCE WE KNOW THE PIN DETAILS WE CAN MODIFY IT FOR USE IN SUZUKI OR OTHER VEHICLES.
