So I have finally been able to change my previously blocked off with a wrapper PCV valve. Changed the oil to 10w-40. Hopefully will go well and, if it does I will change to to 10w-30 on the next oil change. Got this oil as per fellow pakwheeler's suggestion.
New mechanic disapproved slightly and said, "while yes this is the recommended grade for this car, but cars, like your that are considerably old and above the 100,000 kilometer mark, thicker oils are better suited for the engine's protection." Got an oil pan gasket seal, and we were shocked to see that the oil pan didn't even have a seal at all, but instead filled to the brim with silicone. Got brakes serviced and clutch adjusted. Clutch feels very similar to the clutch of my new alto, (which should be a good sign?) Tuned and timing checked. Apparently my accelerator cable was about to give away, got that changed, there is a noticeable change pressing the accelerator now. Went for alignment and guy said that the ball joint of right side needs replacing and should be done immediately. Went back for that and mech and he said we'd need a whole control arm, so we got that for 2700.
The car seems to be running better now, all that's left is the thermostat which I am having trouble locating. Found one for an efi cultus which is 88 degrees. This mechanic strongly encourages installing a thermostat. Here is the condition of the spark plugs, (also got those changed. Got NGK, how are those btw?) Please tell me the condition of these.
I am a bit concerned about overheating after installing a thermostat valve. I started the car and after around 10-15 mins of idling the temp needle went from rest to C. After that I turned on the ac and left it to idle for a solid 20 minutes and the temp needle was still below halfway.
I was also shocked at the price of Caltex coolant which is around 1490 a bottle (1 liter). Does anyone know how many liters I need to get? Apparently there is a shifter/gear seal leak,(no dripping) but mechanic said not to bother with that as it requires a lot of disassembling and one of axle boots is leaking grease too (just some splashes of great on the lower end of the firewall), he said that this also requires a lot of disassembling, hence it isn't too much of a problem as of now.
engine bay is developing rust on the ledge of firewall near vehicle identification plate. and above headlight frame and front shock, is it worth getting painted or will that diminish resale value?
@Xulfiqar @brownrose78 @agoodfriend what are your guys's remarks
