Suzuki Swift old shape worth buying?

Assalam-u-alaikum everyone,

I am currently using Suzuki Mehran 2016 (first owner) and I am thinking to switch to Suzuki Swift 2010-2022 (manual).

I am choosing this car because I heard it have very good AC performance, comfortable seats and overall a solid machine. However, I am aware that it's fuel average isn't very good but I am ok if it gives 12-14km/l with AC on city. Because I think it is the best car in the range of 18-20 lacs.

Those who own Suzuki Swift, do share your positive & negative feedback about the car. Is there any known fault of this car?

P.s.: If anybody in Lahore or Islamabad is selling Suzuki Swift 1.3 DLX manual in my budget. Do let me know.

Own a 16 model manual.
Best vehicle in this range.
Power is great, it can easily outrun many 1.8s.
Ac even in peak summers performs brilliant.
Long average is around 17 18 and city is around 12 13.
Very comfortable and good road grip.

You mentioned your buying budget, thats one piece of the story. The actual cost of ownership is the running costs,

Are you ok with it being a bit older, but has good road manners, good hvac but a bit thirsty for fuel?

Do you have a good workshop/mechanic on good terms for repairs? Or you shop around the block everytime some work is required?

If all the above slot in, go for it, if they dont, then expand your search.

That's the reason I posted here to ask positive and negative aspects of this car.

And as I mentioned earlier that Yes, I am ok with fuel average and I don't mind if it's an old car because I think it's the only good option in this budget.

I have a good mechanic but I am curious that if I buy 70-90k driven , 2011-2017 model swift then what mechanical work should I expect and how much money should I have in spare to fix those?

100k driven in Pakistan usually means its actually 160k, and every single seller lies when selling a car in Pakistan.

Words like untouch and seal pack are red flags as it means that it was probably never maintained and you have to “catch up” with the missed maintenance.

Every car has a built in cost of running which includes maintenance too. If you have a good mechanic who works by the book and can bring a car back to “manufacturers control specification” in a smooth single shot then its a great buy.

If you have a mechanic who is versed in “kaam chalado” then it may sting you, I say this under assumption that you want your car to be nice n top notch.

Today, there was a raptor in for meter reverse cuz it's Friday, barakat ka din haay. Altos, Wagon R & swifts are the vehicles that I see almost daily ~ in for meter reverse @ montgomery road.

Unfortunately it's rare to find a car that hasn't been neglected interms of maintenance
Worn out bush left till suspension start clunking
Grinding gears because of worn out clutch plate etc
Rusty radiator because top off with tap water etc
Just make a budget for these unforeseeable issues,

People can afford to buy a vehicle worth millions but can't afford maintaining them !!

I understand your point that I should only buy this car if my mechanic is not "jugaro" or "kaam chor". My mechanic always diagnose the problem because he knows I always keep my car maintained.

But the question is if I find a maintained car then still I have to go workshop every now and then? It's not a civic so I think after general maintenance it should work fine?

And yes, I do want a top notch car but I am also practical. I know it's impossible to find B2b genuine car in this budget. I am looking for a car that has 2-3 pieces touching and mechanically wise I want it to be as good as possible (because that's what this car is made for).

I think Pakwheels inspection covers everything so I don't have to worry about these issues. Also, all of these issue can be identified when I'll take a test drive.

Or these issue can be hide from experts also?

Its either 'sirf oil aur filter change total jenyan' or drowned cat convertor and throttle body in mystery chemicals every now and again with wear and tear items like brake pads and spark plugs replaced with dodgy aftermarket spares.

One way to get a decent car is to buy it off someone with maintenance history from a 3S dealer from when it was new. That way we have verifiable data from a 3rd party and a timeline of the mileage throughout the cars life

The pakwheels guys are not experts. I sold my swift through them (lovely car btw, if fuel efficiency isn't an issue go for it) and i had to point out to them exactly whats worn out mechanically. My AC was on its way out and they insisted it was fine for a 150k driven car. Their inspection report is mostly just a visual inspection of parts and a paint thickness gauge to see which panels have been repaired/ repainted.

You're better off driving the car to a good mechanic and pay for a thorough inspection. See what it costs to bring the car back to OEM specs and then just drive it till the wheels fall off. The m13A is a very reliable engine, in my ten years of owning the car, i never ran into any major trouble apart from a water pump replacement once in over 10 years of ownership. Never wasted money on 'tuning'. Just fluid changes according to intervals mentioned in the owners manual.

Forget “touch up pieces” as criteria, its nothing more than “trendy fashion” in Pakistan

Its an old car driven on public roads

Look at it as a whole package

E.g. I can find a completely scratched up unmaintained car driven by a owner who didnt care, that car will be 100% genuine to the point of having 130% worn out brake pads too because 100% genuine pads that were installed on the assembly line.

Or I can find a car that was used normally and maintained properly both mechanically and cosmetically (meaning repainted and repaired with atleast OES grade parts)

Can't properly inspect a car in few minutes
Point is people don't sell their car that doesn't require any work,
In some case people just don't keep up with things until they keep piling these maintenance etc to the point car needs a total overhaul i mean
Clutch set, suspension, cooling system radiator and all, axels brake pads, tyres, etc i've seen cars with practically bold tyres for sale in market with deep scratches etc that requires a total paint job faded roof cause it's jenyan,

That's a good idea, I'll see if I am able to find company maintained car. I'd be lucky if I can find one in my budget.

And yeah I have also seen people buying faded color car because it is genuine. lol

logical step from Mehran is to go to next step, i.e., Cultus old shape.

However, Swift requires a bit of more maintainance and care. Known issue, which many users have faced is brake pedal engaging when pressed too much and suddenly the brake engages and secondly it's slave cultch cylinder goes bad after some years as it is made of plastic or something ...

i own a used (abused) 2013 Swift, and have faced these two issues mostly.

I would suggest in 18 lakh budget to look for other better options if you can
