The original CB23 is a very very good and long life engine, once correctly mic'd and assembled like "THE FACTORY SAID IT SHOULD" the engine will last you and your children's life too.

The biggest killer for this engine is running it cold all the time, with the oil cap PCV pipe blocked off, this disintegrates the oil badly. Other bits like not having proper upkeep etc does the rest of empyting your pocket.

In my experience I found them very very robust - almost wear like an iron anvil like Nissan engines do, When working on them and the subaru E - The subaru is top notch in quality and workmanship - the daihatsu/toyota CB is next, all the rest then follow.

im still using the cb 23. its been rehouled 3 times . pretty fast if u compare it with cars like cultus , santro , and the likes . feul average is pretty nice 12-13 with ac and 15 with out on light foot. 26 yrs with me ... from day one.

now with the inflow of japanese cars like boon , vitz , mira etc cars that even go upto 25 km per litre. whats your advice on swapping to an engine of the latest jap cars .

No doubt the charade g-11 has given me an experiance and satisfaction only a few cars can give like the starlet , club cultus and the likes.

not only was it fast , great road grip , aestitically great , it had pretty good feul average with a very comfortable drive u get in sedans.

now with the hike in feul prices whats your advise ?

On CNG...Forget Any GAINs.....

There Are List Of Things I Can Mention But It All Goes Into Drain If Car Runs On CNG Also....!!

Sell the charade buy Indus Diesel 90s model and Swap 3SGTE.

Theres not much you can do with these engines. Just make sure the distro is good, plugs are properly gapped, tps properly calibrated and all vacuum lines are new and not flimsy/ too long, clean-up the intake, and of-course exhaust of b/w 1.5-2inch dia with 4-2-1 exhaust mani+cold air intake (preferably ram type).

Small modifications will not help you win race again R18. You need a better car with more powerful engine...

BTW If you wanted more power you could have used 4EFTE in place of 5AFE. That when modified can achieve astonishing Horse power.

Even in stock condition 4EFTE Makes 135HP and considering its a 1.3L motor and economy is better than your 5AFE if run normally (Speaking from experience of having on 4EFTE Corolla at home that does 16KMPL local with light foot and seldom boosting).

Your 5AFE hmm max it does is 105HP that was also when it was new and now as these used engine are already close or over 2 Lac km driven hmm I expect lower reading.

Thing is its hard to find clean 4efte or 20v as they are more abused. when they reach our qabli parts markets most if them when opened the tappet covers are black inside.
