Can anyone please advise the current situation in Swat area (till Kalam) in terms of road access and security conditions. Somebody told me that these days Shangla Pass is again problem area (operation sort of things are going these days). We have plan to leave Lahore on 24-Feb for 2~3 days on own vehicle (XLI).

@abas786: Thanks Buddy, but the thing is that they were on 4x4 and we wil be on 2x4 wheels. This is the main concern due to snow and stuff like that.

Bro road till madian is good then onwards its a rough track but a corolla can go easily i have seen alot of corollas on my way to kalam with IJC.
& there is no such operation in shangla.its totally safe these days.

hmm if possible arrange 2 chains then it will be not an issue.btw the army machinery is there for clearing the roads if it snows!

@Asifcae: Asif Bhai, I already gone thru with ur thread, infact that was ur visit in April which make me decide to go to Swat (a long awaited/delayed tour). But the thing is, it was April 2012 when u visited, but NOW its End June and summer holidays so must be hell of a difference in everything (like room rents, jeep rents, etc. etc), thatzwhy I am asking for the latest update...........

hello bhais.....can anybody make a plan for me? as i am planning a tour for kalam of 4 0r 5 days days, starting from wed-sun , or please mention a day that can be skipped keeping the total days limited to 4 like e.g if i start the tour from thurs - sun...
2) present road conditions ? if my Honda City 2005 with auto transmission will be easy drive to reach kalam??
3) places to visit in the area?keeping in mind days planned for tour.
4) approx. budget?
5) best time to visit would be in summer?or wait for the winter?

Is there is any road that connects the two valleys or i must return to Islamabad..

As'salamu Alaiqum,

i have returned yesterday from my 6 days tour to Kalam - Alhamdulillah the tour went very good.

the road condition from bahrain to Kalam is very bad - if cuore/mehran/santro etc., can reach Kalam , i don't see any reason why your Honda city can't.

You can visit Mahudand lake, kharkhari lake, Buyun village , spend a day in Kalam bazar & visit Jalband village.
