And it’s official! The all-new Suzuki Swift is here. Last night, Suzuki launched the new Swift in three variants: Swift GL Manual, Swift GL CVT, and Swift GLX CVT.
Swift is the only locally assembled B-segment hatchback in Pakistan. The car’s closest competitors are the B-segment sedans: Yaris, City, and Alsvin. After Swift vs Yaris faceoff, let’s put the top-of-the-line 1.2L CVT Swift against the 1.2L CVT City and see which one is a better choice.
Dimensions
Honda City is a sedan, whereas Swift is a hatchback. City is longer than Swift because of the trunk; otherwise, the two cars have the same width and height.
City is 175 inches long, 67 inches wide, and 59 inches tall. Swift is 151 inches long, 68 inches wide, and 60 inches tall.
Engine & Transmission
The top-of-the-line GLX Swift variant is powered with a 1197cc K-Series VVT engine that produces 81 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque. The 1.2L CVT City variant has a 1199cc SOHC i-VTEC engine that produces 88 horsepower and 110 Nm of torque. Both cars have CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). Swift GLX has a Sports Mode; City does not.
City’s engine is more powerful than Swift’s by a hair.
Exterior
Suzuki Swift GLX has automatic LED projection headlights, whereas City 1.2L CVT has dual-barrel halogen headlights. Both cars’ headlights have integrated LED DRLs. Swift GLX has LED rear combination lamps and halogen fog lamps. City 1.2L CVT has halogen rear lamps and no fog lamps. But you can get halogen fog lamps for extra thousand rupees.
Both cars have electrically adjustable side view mirrors. The difference is these mirrors are also retractable in Swift GLX. Both cars have smart keyless entry, but City also has a keyless trunk opener feature.
Swift comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, whereas City has 15-inch steel wheels. Swift GLX has a rear wiper; City does not.
Swift GLX is a better-looking car with more frills than City.
Interior
Inside the cabin, you can start Swift GLX with a push-button but can’t do the same with City. Both cars have high-grade fabric seats with height-adjustable driver’s seat. Power steering in both cars has tilt and telescopic adjustment and media control buttons.
Both cars have Multi-Information Displays (MIDs). The single-zone air conditioning system is automatic in Swift GLX and manual in City. Moreover, Swift GLX has a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, whereas City has a 7-inch touchscreen.
Swift GLX is more feature-rich than City.
Safety
Both cars have front disc and rear drum brakes with ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and EBD (Emergency Braking Distribution). Other common safety features include an immobiliser and reverse camera.
Swift GLX has more safety add-ons than its City rival, such as cruise control, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill Start Assist, rear parking sensors, and six airbags (two in City). The only safety feature that City 1.2L CVT has and Swift does not is ISOFIX child seat anchors.
Price
Suzuki Swift GLX CVT has a price tag of Rs. 2,899,000. Honda City 1.2L CVT comes at a price of Rs. 2,949,000.
And that brings us to our final verdict that the top-of-the-line Swift variant has more value for lower money. Which one do you think wins the Swift vs City face-off? Tell us in the comments.
