Synthetic oil in cultus

I have 2004 vxr cultus , 140k km odo, water dropping well mantained engine. Oil i have been using is caltex havoline formula 10w30 from a decade , which i change after 5 to 7k kms which cost me around 2200 . Now i am planning to switch to synthetic oil which hopefully will last 15k and costing around 3000. So from a broad perspective as per i am guessing i will be saving money on synthetic oil in long run.
So my question is the above mentioned theory of mine is either true or not ? And is it safe to use synthetic oil in a car which is 12 years old and already driven 142000 kms ?

Your oil sump is not designed to run for 15k. The oil filter also isn't that good to go beyond 5k kms.

Can understand you point that oil filter wont last longer than 6 to 8k kms but whats the logic behind the oil sump ?

dont go above api sj
if you want a cleaner engine use diesel engine oil

Synthetic oil is meant for new high performance cars. Your car is neither new nor high performance. So don't waste your money.

But rs2200 for 6 to 8k conventional .... while rs3000 for 15k . Systhetic .. synthetic oil will be cheaper

You can use it if you want to but synthetic oil will not increase drain interval.

If you try increasing it to 15k it will be bad for your engine cuz the oil filter is small and amount of oil in oil sump is small. Oil will be very dirty by that time even if it is good enough chemically.

It is not a wise idea to exceed the service intervals mentioned in the manual of your car.

api greater than sj has lesser zddp which in turn increase wear of tappet
switch to 10w40 api sj or lower

I am using havoline formula 10w30 from day 1 and planning to stick to it as i am getting superb performance from the engine it lasts around 6 to 9 k but i change at 7 to 8 k and after 140k odo engine is still soundless water dropping

Suggest me may I use havoline formula 10w30 in my cultus efi 2011, 78000 clocked and previously using zic m 15w40.

amazed to hear that you change it at around 7k km....havoline formula should be changed between 4 to 4.5k km...max 5k km....not a single meter above it...will love to see the inside picture of tappet cover...you will see what you have been doing to the engine of the car

The logic is that engine oil drain interval depends upon engine more than oil a engine with bigger sump will have long drain interval oil filter matters a lot too

@ashbal fortunately changing oil at 7k never put me in a situation to open the engine its 140k but still sealed. Not even tappet cover has been removed ever .. on cng 55kg cylinder i get around 120 to 130 km and i am satisfied with it. May b i am putting some extra stress over cultus but its rigid enough to sustain that .

dnt use oil beyond api sl in this flat tappet engine.......use the oil u r using or sgo api sg 10w-40...........or delo gold ultra 15w-40 if u can find original.....but i advise u to stick to zic oil u r using coz u can buy geniune online.

@zeeshanali7 i am not a guru i just mentioned what i am doing to my car since day 1 , and imo i am justified with my car . Give havoline formula 10 w30 a try with new oil and air filter .. i hope you wont regret

ur drain interval is fine till u r not using fake oil or filters.

No need to change the oil ZIC 15w40 api sj would work better in your EFI Cultus.

I think havoline formula is 10w30 api sm which would not be a good option due to lesser zddp.
