That's too soon, I wondering how long will 416 last . What's would be your core purpose & except beach driving what are the closest terrains where you can really test 421s & 416?

Even 421s are unstopable, we have tested them in sand, mud, water, snow and on the rocks

Just to share with you, my 421 fever is over and I am thinking to go for 416. I like its 5.7L Turbo (OM352) engine and hydraulic mechanism. I have studied 416, its a on-road and off-road non-stop machine, very good mileage (8 KM/L) and lot more........ What is your advise..........

well, 416 is too big and too long, my personally feel 406 are much better, there wheelbase is slightly shorter than 421s we have the power of big block. I never say no if anyone wants to buy a Unimog since I want to see them living so I have green flag on this, you will get power steering and power assisted brakes which will make driving more easier!

I have my doubts on the mileage stats 8KM/L, be prepared for 3 KM/L but this doesnt matter if Unimog is not your daily driver!

421 with 416 or 406 will be the best jori. boy Bash has given you rite advice... and remember 416 is running with same gear box only diffs are bigger and wider with different ratios. power steering and power assisted breaks is what we all dream of but believe me we never got tired in our last 2 expeditions but yes as we are getting old, we need some luxury of power steering... go for it boy... it might be heavy on your pocket in terms of maintenance but worth spending... yes 406 are there with Army if i am not wrong i have seen one with the airforce...

lastly i would suggest to remove the rear cabin of your 129 and drive it... you will love the drive and you will be able to do serious hardcore offroading as well...

now challenge was how to remove the "paint over paint" on rims... suggestion came "sir jee ainnu saar lao" burn it... damn it, i am not doing the burning thing on my rims... Paint remover :S... discussed with Janj and he said yes its tried and tested... so lets do it...

Thanks, I was also thinking on same guidelines but I have acquired 421.129 (Ambulance) as camper rather as an off-road machine, therefore, I am looking to have a off-road machine. I checked with someone regarding 406 availability, majority of Mogs are 421 and 416 so very rare chances to get 406. Let hope another army auction and let me try my luck.:S

we have bought some worlds best available Mog tyre... we were lucky :)... i am not putting them on the old rims at all... need to paint them again :S PAINT i mean when ever i go muddy and then to service station the paint on mogs rim always came off in pieces... lets remove the paint first then we will see what we are going to do with paint thing...

now challenge was how to remove the "paint over paint" on rims... suggestion came "sir jee ainnu saar lao" burn it... damn it, i am not doing the burning thing on my rims... Paint remover :S... discussed with Janj and he said yes its tried and tested... so lets do it...

What is the harm in burning the paint. Does it damage the metal?
Normaly people do turn to this burning of paint option.

On a lighter note you wont be able to run your Mogs keeping the emissions compliance in mind.

On an serious note... Burning metal to remove paint specially from Rim (where you need to keep wheel balance) "not a good idea", since we can't do wheel balancing on Mogs Rim by adding weight that we usually do in our daily ride. So didn't like the idea of burning, that might change the metallurgy and chances are there to imbablance the wheel. I guess u understand....

On a forum was reading "how to do the wheel balancing on Mog" there they used couple of Golf balls inside the tubeless tyre to keep the wheel balance on rotation... This engineering also went above my head ....

For Basch specially, wheel balancing is very much important since he drive his mog around 100kmph.... Which is way fast considering Unimog 421/416/406... And Basch still have to thank me for chipping BeeMog's suspension with rally specs.

Ok I do understand the issue. That is what I thought aswell when I read that you did not opt to burn it, coz burning the paint off is a lot less hassel.

Now comming to the painting of the rims

Are you concidering powdercoating them? Is Powder Coating not a better solution as compared to plain painting?
