DeeMog glow plugs changed....
why one of the glow plug melted like this.... please comment.... (remember we are talking about geniun german plugs not the daisi one... also 24v)

Country Boy;) the only function of the glowplug in a Diesel engine is to heat the AIR in the inlet manifold - not the fuel before it is injected into the combustion chamber in the last few millimetres of the compression stroke . The air is heated instantly to around 600 centigrade ( the flash point of diesel) to assist the combustion on initial startup.

The picture above shows the glow plugs wear out due to the reason of running them a lot or trying to start a vehicle with not fuel.

Also glow plugs wear out due to the burn out of the inner heater core due to excess current flow. Check wiring Harness & glow plug timer.

thx for the info Janj.... and now please if you could recall before DeeMog's summer trip 2010 there was a starting issue and i was just heating the plug again and again (might be the melting reason). it was a great DIY by Janj mounting fuel pump inside the tank and at save the great tour....

and americans were copying gear box when Germans made the diff lock :P

Things left on BeeMog

1. Air Filter
2. Greasing on Drive Shaft connecting points (2 left)
3. Few Electrics, the ignition switch will be DIY
4. Glow Plugs - Not Changing them since it started on the 1st sulf after hibernation
5. Brakes Bleeding - MMC told you the story, someone forgot to cover the brake oil bottle on the master cylinder & air is back inn

There are few tasks which are not bothering me at the moment & I have left them for the mechanic in Lahore since his attention to details & knowledge on mog is simply world class!

Maintenance Jobs Done

1. All Brakes Serviced, brake warshal kits replaced with fresh 1s
2. Hub oils drained, washed and changed. Rear hubs were already fresh and clean
3. 4 point greasing on hubs
4. Differential oil checked
5. Transmission Oil checked
6. Engine Oil & Filter changed
7. Front Cabin Mounting changed
8. Transmission oil was showing full & its fresh (driven hardly 3500KM since changed)
9. Batteries serviced
10. Cigarette lighter come Electricity supplier checked

Above tasks inspected by Guru Gee before going for the off-road run in E-10

Bash it was really a fast maintenance and then to test drive.... whats pending on the job card?

damn i missed the hot soup .... GG boy its a Mog-Leak so nothing to worry about

Excellent find indeed, I think if only front are replaced, mog will be quite like a mog , this job is pending for BeeMog's drive to Lahore, very soon IA

Basheer i have found hub bearing and yes the geniun one .... there are four bearings runs in the hub and this is the bigger one....

240Ds kee bhee jayho, they are built to run forever and hard to get apart with :). This engine is internationally praised as most durable diesel engine ever produced by Germans (H)

Unimog Maintenance Job Card (after hibernation of 5Months):

-Change engine oil.
-Change oil filter.
-Service oil bath air filter and change oil as well.
-check oil level in transmission.
-Change oil in Hubs.
-Brake service. check Master brake cylinder and wheel brake cylinder and change rubber washers if required. check all pipe for condition. check thickness of brake lining.
-Check engine mountings and replace if required.
-Grease at 6 points (4 points at front wheels and 2 points torque tubes). check torque tube boot for condition.
-check oil level in steering box and adjust play in steering.
-Hand brake cable to be adjusted.
-Check v belts, retighten or change if required.
-Check all hose pipes for leaking and cracks. change if necessary.
-Check clutch working properly. lubricate release shaft of drive clutch.
-check drivers cab mountings and retighten.
-check valve clearance adjustment.
-check and change oil in differentials.
-tie rod end greasing.
-recharge batteries and go offroad

DeeMogs started today after changing glow plugs and as always half self start even after hibernation for last 5months.... simply love Merc and 240D.... Mashallah... i drove DeeMog to workshop where above maintenance will took place....

Janj wala Fuel pump upgrade was just like switching to the rotary motor from a donkey pump , remember the BeeMog's donkey pump stopped pumping the blood to the engine 6 KM into gitidas from Butogah? The Spare pump in DeeMog was lifesaver!

Regarding Diff Lock, who came up with this idea? which the first machine to have them?
