Another EV joins the not so easily “ AFFORDABLE “ club . This is Audi’s reply to the Tesla Model S. The 4 door Audi Coupe is based on Porsche’s J1 performance platform and this should give you some hints. Audis GT is non identical sibling of Porsche Taycan.
Although these models are same under the skin, GT is slightly laid back as far as performance , obviously VW group wants to keep the Taycan a premium performance model and on top of the range.
At launch there will be two variants. A regular GT and RS. Both models are offered with dual motors and two speed transmission. The model comes with 800V charging capabilities for fast charging. Battery pack 93kWh with useable 86KWh and driving range of 488 Kilometers.
The battery can be fully charged in 22 minutes via super-fast 270kW DC charging. It can help 100 kilometers of range in just 5 minutes. There are two charging ports, one on each side. One is for AC regular chargers while the other helps with the DC charging.
The basic entry-level Audi e-tron GT Quattro has power output of 476 HP and 630Nm of torque for Europe . RS e-tron GT has power of 589HP and 830NM of torque in Europe. IN US , the base GT has 469HP and 630 NM of torque.
There is an over boost function of 2.5 seconds which pumps up the power for little time to 522hP and 640NM of torque. As of RS, the power comes as 590 HP and 830NM of torque and it also comes with an over boost function, which pushes the power to 637Hp but keeps the same level of torque @ 830NM.
The Front motor on both models is same as 175kWh [235HP ] while the rear motor on GT is 320kW [420HP] while that on RS, it is 335kW [450HP].
RS can reach 60 in 3.1 seconds while the GT does that 3.9 seco0nds. Top speed is limited to 255kmph for RS while 245 for the GT. Audi mentions that this GT E-tron has the lowest drag co-efficient with 0.24, which makes it very slippery as far as aerodynamics.
There rear motor on each model deploy a 2 speed transmission for Efficency and Performance. In Efficiency mode, the car remains in second gear as much as possible for greater range. The Sports mode is for performance and for launch purposes. In this model the vehicle remains in first gear till 100km/h speed is achieved.
All wheel steering is available as option on both versions. It also comes with locking rear differential for improved traction. In has an all electric AWD system and torque can shift between front and rear as needed.
As of interior, its high end typical Audi with current design language. Leather free interior as standard and instead recycled materials are used. Although leather is available as an option. There is 12.3 inch virtual digital HD instrument display while 10.3 touch screen infotainment system.
Three variants will be offered in US. GT quattro Premium Plus @ $99,900, the GT quattro Prestige @ $107,100 and the RS GT @ $139,900
