Thinking of buying Liana (Suggestions/advise Requested)

I am thinking about buying a Liana. The idea initially popped while coming back from Naran where on Motorway I felt my Cultus is kind of under-powered. Although it's a pretty clean car engine and body wise (80-90% original) and engine from what my mechanic says is still sealed (190000 KM) and never overhauled and is in fabulous condition. But still on motorways I don't take the car beyond 100 KM/H just so that it doesn't get abused because after-all it's 2002 model and the engine no matter kept with care it's almost 15-16 years old.

Now I think it's time to sell Cultus and go for a well kept sedan which I think only Baleno and Liana would fall in my budget. I am thinking to go for Liana given that I could get my hands on 2006-2010/11 model which comparatively is a new model. I need suggestions from fellow wheelers here whether I should go for Liana or not and also what I should keep in mind while inspecting. I have some points in mind:

1) Make sure the car is 1st owner
2) CNG never installed
3) Frame intact
4) Engine is in good shape

I will really appreciate if you guys could help with few more points as well about your suggestions which model is better and market value of Liana.

My current vehicle would go for 400K and I could add about 100-200K. So 5-6 Lacs.

In that case, I would suggest you to go for a well kept Baleno. It'll be quite difficult for you to get a good Liana in this range.

I personally like the build quality of Baleno but I believe finding a Baleno that too with no CNG would be one hell of a task may be even harder than finding a good Liana. Liana is available starting from 450000 and onwards why do you think in 6 lacs a good Liana would be hard?

600K is good enough to buy a clean Liana in karachi. But you will here from a lot of people to dont but it. It had many issues when it came out which were sorted to some extent in the later models. it is a good car with engine similar to Suzuki Swift. The version which is a good buy is the Eminent Liana since this was a later version and was sorted. Best of Luck.

In Islamabad, a clean Baleno will cost at least 5.5 lacs. And Liana for around 6.5-7 (early models). This is why I told him to stay away from it. But, if one can find a clean Liana in this range that hasn't been in the hands of a Desi mechanic, then it's advisable to buy a Liana.

I don't mind buying a vehicle from Islamabad and driving it back to Karachi. I love how vehicles there are in better condition mostly because of better road condition. But they are costlier than Karachi of-course.

VURV is different and Eminent has Eminent written on the back Plus it has golden badging

One more advantage in buying vehicles from ISB is that they have less rust. Karachi's Humidity and moisture ruin cars

After 2009, Liana came with the VURV badging. Variants were the same (RXi, LXi) but the facelift had VURV badges too. There was another Variant, VURV EMINENT that had golden badges, automatic transmission, 1.6 engine. In Islamabad, it costs around 10-11 lacs for a 2010 model.

Yes, this is true. But then you'll have to pay a lot more since the market here is very high.

The Market in Karachi is not very high. max 700k you can get a nice clean example. @pwuser150469741418 check pakwheels used car section or olx you will get a much better idea

I don't think it's a bright idea to buy a used Liana, even if someone give it to you for... Free.

Well, since I can't seem to figure out how to put it more delicately and respectfully; I'll just say it out loud:

Liana is a heap of junk.

My uncle bought this garbage of a car about a decade ago and let me just say that this car proved to be a total NIGHTMARE for him. The build quality is poor, the reliability is pretty much nonexistent, the spares are expensive and for some reason; this car is a mechanical nightmare; even for experienced mechanics. My uncle's car stayed at a garage half the time and according to him; it's impossible to clock 300 kilometers in a Liana without running into some sort of problem.

This car, my friend, is a bad car, full stop.

But it's your money and your car so... I don't care what you end up buying. I won't even pretend!

I just consider it my moral obligation to warn people of trouble, for the better or worse.

Well, the same was said for a Baleno but as an owner of one, I'll deny these claims. If taken care of these cars, they serve faithfully and without any problems. Yes, spares are expensive but this is because Liana is a rare car when compared with Civic, city or Corolla.

How the hell engine spares are expensive? i don't understand. If you maintain any car properly it will serve faithfully. people make perception and mechanics create them. Same is for the swift, majority of the Pakistani ustaads dont understand a swift and act like a jackass that if the car is too complicated.

Check with suzuki certified used cars, buy one from there, thats your best bet. Opt for the latest ones available.
There are countless threads on this car, many people curse it due to what happened to them. I too have seen many people cry while using a liana but i won't wanna be bais.
There are 2 three users on this site who seem to have a great experience with a liana and there claim is that if get on OEM parts, OEM settings and petrol, its a flawless car.
