Thinking of buying Prado old shape (advice needed)

I was going to buy a new Honda Civic, but I have a big family and want to buy a 7 seater car. My idea is that I can probably get an old shape Prado for almost the same price as a new Civic. i.e. around 18-20 lac.

I have no knowledge about Prados, the differnet type of models, what are the common problems with it. What kind of fuell consumption I should expect out of it. How expensive are common parts suh as Air filter/oil filter etc.

What should I look for when selecting one and most of all is it even advisable to buy it ?

Will appreciate comments from knowledgable users.

I think u r talking about 2nd Gen Prado 1995-1997 model.

It is indeed a very nice and powerful machine.

Fuel average is as low as 6km/liter.
Parts r not that expensive. No common problem as such.

U should check out that is the engine is in good condition.
Because many a times engines of the old suvs r f****d up.

Its Rz variant is very fast, but u need a 7 seater so u cant go for it.
So go for Tz and u'll love it.

go for 97 tz diesel u can find one in max 17 lacks ,
no problem at all

you have a good thinking mind i must say i also have a prado of 97 its a TZ with dual a/c my family loves and enjoy this jeep instead i have civic 2006,premio 2004,corrola 2005,city steermatic

prado is a diffrent machine this machine does not want any track or road i have helpd many peopel in last rains they have been stuck in the water and i pulled them out with the help of my prado

things you should checked before

1) sound of turbo as you press the accelator it should start whislte at 2200 rpm

2) engine noise open the cap of engine head from where we pour engine oil if the oil pops out of that whole so its mean that engine is in very bad condition

3) take a drive on rough road with lots of bumps and dips dnt stop it speed it up and listen to the suspension clear fully

4 shockers go on a smoth road check the balance prado should move in straight line take one side on reflecter as fast as you can and repeat it with another side

please note drive the jeep on both system i mean on 4wd and 2wd front and 2wd rear ok this option is must to be checked and steer your jeep to full left and right in 4wd option when engaged

check engine smoke should be less and black

Sir, you should also consider getting a Toyota Estima/Previa. This is a reliable, cheap MPV with many luxury features. We have an old version (Toyota Townace) in the family and it is very convenient to transport a family of 7 within city and on long routes. The ride is much comfortable than a Prado or a Pajero and it is a lot of fun for children and very convenient for elders. Do take a ride in one of these vehicles before you finalize your decision of buying an SUV.

You can easily find one in excellent condition in your budget.

why do u have to buy a a 12 year old car.. which gives milage of 6-7 km...
it will require more maintainence..
i would want a trouble free and new car for my family
wont ever spend 18 lac on a 12 year old car..
the only reason i might.. is that i offroad alot..
and find a very neat car..

but its your choice i will suggest
get a hiance dual ac... its cheaper
comfortable.. and will support ur family
and model will be new as well

ooo bai i hav totaly new idea 4 u y dnt u do for stavic its luxry family SUV or u can say MPV its mch better thn prado and estima as compare to price perfomance and luxry

Guys. Stavic seems very interesting. Can you tell me where one should look for it ? and you are saying Zero meter is available for 17-21 lac. What about resale ?

bro it is avaliable for 17 to 21 lac zero meter and dats for suer bcuz i bought it jst few months b4

if u want to see it thn it may b avaliable for disply at nissan shoroom on gt road near dha phase 2

if u unabl to find it ther thn u can see mine be frndly

and resale wise it is slow thn prado jst bcuz of market positioning but its not dat mch bad in resale bcuz i jst uplod it to look for the value of my car althoug it is unknown ride but still i hav an offer of 18lac for ane whch is 21 new

just 6km/l........thats very low . will be very expensive driving prado. also maintenance cost is high for diesel engines. its definitely not a daily runner

Wait for the facelift and buy a Civic.

Ninety percent of the times we're driving alone, or with a couple of members. Its not wise to sacrifice the drive pleasure or the reliability and resale of Honda, or the smell of a new car over the remaining 10 percent.

AGREE....THAT'S TRUE...90TO 95% OF THE TIMES WE ARE DRIVING ALONE....INFACT IT IS CRAZY TO SEE PEOPLE BUYING 5-DOOR (7SEATERS) IN PAKISTAN WHEREAS IDEALLY WE SHOULD HAVE DEVELOPED A MARKET FOR 3-DOORS PRADO ETC. A 12 SEATER BEST BE USED AS A SCHOOL VAN...I THINK...IT WILL MAKE GOOD MONTHLY INCOME.....LOL
