Tips for Baleno

My car's ground clearance is not good... I am attaching some pictures of its rear and front wheels.. can u tell me that the difference between its tires and fenders is ok or not? if the difference is less then should i go to a mechanic for shock repairing or what should i do?

Dr. Adnan hidayat... did u installed a new air filter box or fixed the old one? if bought a new one then whats the cost of it?

No no.... Not new. Just checked the air entry by the method mentioned by skill.... N once I got the hole sealed it with tissue paper N tape...:d..... N then i checked it ..... Worked like a charm..... No lag in 2nd gear now not even going uphill..... can even change it at low rpm n gets picked from 0km on plain road..... So now its perfect........ Will search for the new one.....

@ Skill... one more question for u... My cars engine sounds like a DIESEL engine.. even on idle or running.. while running when i reaches only on 3000 RPM it sounds like i am running it on 8000 RPM... engine is not smooth... it sounds so much...

My mechanic checked it and said that the problem my be with the Bearing of Power Pump Or timing bearing ETC... could u recognize any definite fault?

timing bearing of baleno is about an inch or so in diameter secondly if timing bearing is faulty,you will hear a continuous whizzing sound.
Sound on idle might be because of loose tappets and sound on high speed might be because of many other reasons like damaged or absence of resonator(sound box) or might be of wheel bearings.
Mostly people concentrate on front wheel bearings but there are cases where rear wheel bearings also become the cause of noise on high speed.
Are you 100% sure,the sound is of engine?

gap between tyre and fender shield looks quite ok,if you want to uplift the suspension by adding up spacers over the shock absorber,this will ruin the looks and because of spacers, your suspension will become stiff,you will observe the stretched balance rods after this work(not recommended).
Cases with added spacers in rear shock absorbers,car would become problematic for high speed sharp turn,back of the car may skid due to unbalancing caused by the spacers.

uplift the car on a service station hydraulic jack,go under the car,look near oil sump keeping yourself under the driver seat and facing towards head lamps,you will see a grip attaching a group of wires to a point,this is crank angel sensor,sorry i dont have a picture of the sensor right now with me.
If you manage to take a picture of your car,i can point it out.
By the way,what make you think for crank sensor?

brother thanks for the reply, actually i am servicing some of the sensors and misc parts of the newly purchased car myself. I have cleaned/serviced throttle body, TPS, IAT sensor, CAM angle sensor (it had black liquidish carbon on it), sealed the air intake passage tightly, got the radiator serviced, removed thermostat valve (i know its not good but i just feel comfortable without it), now am more curious to locate and clean the crankshaft sensor.

Btw you are a life/money savor for a lot of people who are considering replacement of coils. My car was lagging / missing on 1st and 2nd gear and following your instructions i inspected the air intake system using the most complicated and expensive equipment "a tissue paper" and found that there were air leakage at several points which was rectified and cars runs as smooth as a brand new one. THANKS TO YOU

Sound is from the engine bay... its not the sound of wheel bearings.. it comes from the left side of engine where power pump, generator, etc are installed.. when u accelerate it with the wire attached with the throttle body while the car is standing it creates sound.. but the sound is from left side.. no sound of tappets...
And the other thing u mentioned (sound box).. i didnt know is it present in my car or not.. can u post some pics of that sound box so that i can confirm...

Ok thanks.. then what is the reason of its little bad ground clearance.. it ok on normal speed breakers on the road.. but with the 5 passengers in it i have to be very careful on some high speed breakers... i have to reduce its speed to zero and then make a cross cut to avoid touching the ground.. should ask mechanic to check its shocks?

The crank sensor is located near marked space in the picture though its not clearing up the exact location but you will easily find it.

in fact the round plate with several teeth by which crank sensor tells the position of crank is attached with crank shaft near its neck means where crank pulley is fitted, obviously crank sensor should be around crank pulley as agtr65 said.

can you further elaborate the type of sound?
if it comes when accelerating the engine,it might be serious too,i mean crank shaft bearings:o which are called main big ends,but to assume it as a main big end sound is too early,first its better to clarify the type of sound.
resonator is located behind the fog lamp inside the fender shield and under the air filter hosing.

with out looking apparently i can not suggest you a proper technique to uplift the car,it might be because of pressed springs as well.

if you are using tyres that have a larger diameter than the recommneded ones then the gap between your arches and tyres will definately be less..
to check the recommened tyre size plz correlate the recommended tyre size on the driver side door pillar near the seat area and then check again on the tyres what tyres size you are using..

if they are OK. then you have to open up the struts assembly ie shock aborbers and springs. I am using XLI springs in rear to counter for the cng cylinder weight along with baleno shock absorbers.. working fine till now apart from a TUK sound sometimes because longer springs sometimes absorb the impact without letting the shock absorbers to open properly..

here is how to check the shock absorbers properly. dont let the desi ustaad jee trick you by selling the whole strut assembly, you ve to make him open the stut assembly ie shocks seperated from springs..

^^ your shock absorber is not like this, its part of an assembly with springs and shock absorbers, it is just to show that weak shock absorber wont come up easily or will stay at a lower level.., also whil doing it compare the 4 shock absorbers to find that which one is weak..

I just purchased a 2001, baleno 1.6 gti. i want to know which oil is best for it. and which plugs? i have been through most of the posts in this thread but they are regarding 1.3 baleno. also, the pick is not that impressive. and when i turn the steering, it gives a tuk tuk sound. its not from the GODA. comes from somewhere under the speedo meter area.
Is there any good workshop for baleno in saddar, rawalpindi. and is enercon the best guy for tuning or is someone else better in islamabad?
