Mota patla tail is a desi term for easy understanding.
The actual comparison is obtained from the fluid viscosity at 100’C
If one fluid viscosity is 8.5cst and other is 8.7cst, then 8.7 wala tail Mota hey.
Both oils specs are available on different websites.

BTW the blending companies always keeps the technical specs on exceeding side which make them useable for other vehicles too.

Please note that Aisin's CFEx+ (CVT fluid) is fully recommended to use where Toyota's CVT-TC & CVT-FE both are recommended. If you can reply about this Aisin’s oil query correctly, then I will believe you got the point of fluid’s exceeding specs.

Do what Toyota says. There’s no need for one to try and become more smart than the people who made the car. Follow the official owners or service manual, where nowhere Toyota says to change CVT oil at 50,000km or 60k km.

This is unnecessary and wastage of time+money, just like changing fully synthetic oil at 3000km is a waste, by saying “engine costs a lot” … yes it does, but changing this early is unnecessary fear mongering. When engine and oil is designed for 8,000+ km.

Sure, do inspect oil let’s say at 80,000km for peace of mind and replace with OEM method if required.

I believe this Pakistani guy has shown almost all the steps that you shared Dr sb. Kindly watch this video and tell if we can follow the procedure shown in the video or not. I really appreciate your thread on this sensitive topic. I have been reading and researching about cvt transmission oil change and things are not making sense. I don't have enough tools otherwise for sure I would try to change the oil on my own.

My comments on the video.
1. I fully watched it. Unfortunately the procedure is wrong.
2. Blunder # 1 done by the mechanic in video is not ensuring the CORRECT TEMPERATURE OF 35C-45C (transmission K313).
3. Blunder #2: only one drain & fill, whereas Toyota recommends 3 three, I have explained it in my article.

My suggestion:
DO NOT worry if you don't have tools, please 100% understand the procedure. Find a willing & intelligent mechanic. First discuss with him what steps are needed. Then only supervise when he's doing it.

As I mentioned earlier, bring it from any country’s owners manual where Toyota directly operates.

Is Japan, USA, Europe, Australia etc ignorant?

Or maybe Toyota the owner/maker of this has no clue? The whole world should maybe get some lesson from indus then?

They have just lumped CVT together with normal ATF fluid which is completely different and does require changing at that interval. It’s just easy money for dealerships.

Toyota also recommend to never change their atf ws ever in the life of the car.

Some owners keep driving them with torque converter shudder because “toita said so”

And cry at the bill of repair when asked to repair said shudder.

Nissan also claim no change for their cvt. So owners just buy a replacement transmission every 120,000 kms - its packaged box comes with new oil too.

Bmw tell to never change the 8spd autobox oil but zf who makes the box tell to change every 100 000 kms. Owners who follow zf dont have issues, owners following bmw usually login to review sites to complain that it failed.

There are other factors too, like making sure the cooler flows properly, loss of volume also causes similar problems. Beat up garbage or metal from the converter can and will send debris in the system destroying it. Better to clean it and have it looked,

I repair transmissions.

@Xulfiqar I’m all for changing it but there’s no point in unnecessarily changing at tiny intervals like 30,000km to 50,000km.

That’s max 30,000 miles and wasting money..

Should be at least 50,000 miles /80,000 km. That too with the proper method. CVTF doesn’t go bad this early.

I bought a 2016 Corolla 1.8 two months ago with 105,000 km on the odometer. After the transfer, the previous owner moved abroad, and I forgot to ask when the CVT oil was last changed.

I contacted @bridgedoctorali personally , and discussed some queries I had in my mind about this post. To ensure there were no mistakes, I read the K313 Toyota manual thoroughly, as transmission failures are common in cars with neglected CVTs.

I consulted several mechanics in Karachi but wasn't satisfied with their approach. Finally, I went to Torque Garage on Shahra-e-Faisal and spoke with the owner. He agreed to follow the K313 manual for the oil change. Below are the steps we followed:

1. I had already purchased 2 tins of CVT FE oil, a filter with a new O-ring, and a gasket from Hamza Younas Autos (Islamabad).

2. To save time, I left the car at the workshop overnight to allow it to cool.

3. The next day, at 11 am, we drained 2.9L of oil after opening the drain nut and filler tube.

4. We refilled the same amount of oil, started the car, and shifted through the gears.

5. After 30 seconds, we turned off the engine and removed the drain nut and the entire oil pane to change the CVT filter (as the car had over 100,000 km). This time, around 3.5L of oil drained (we didn’t measure precisely as we filled until oil dripped from the drain nut).

6. We cleaned the oil pane and magnet with a cloth (not petrol).

7. We filled approximately 3.5L of oil until it started dripping from the drain nut, then closed it.

8. Added 1.1L more oil, as specified in the manual.

9. Started the car, connected a scanner, and waited for the transmission oil temperature to reach 35°C (since the proper fluid level is only achieved between 35-45°C).

10. When the temperature hit 37°C, we opened the drain nut to let the excess oil flow out. Once it started dripping, we tightened the drain nut, completing the 1.5-hour job.

We took the car for a test drive, and I immediately felt smoother and more responsive acceleration. I’m relieved now, as I was worried about the transmission failing. After 40 km in traffic, the fuel efficiency also improved by 1.5 km/L.

60,000 miles or 100k km is a good safe level to change the CVT oil at least in Toyotas. Anything early is quite excessive and not mentioned in any Toyota service or owners manual worldwide.

Glad you found a workshop that did the thing according to you.

How much did they charge for the job?

I have recently purchased used grande 2018. Previous owner has never changed the cvt fluid. My car gives weird noise on engine running and the noise reduces when i put in reverse.
I want to confirm if my cvt is healthy or not.
There is no jerk on normal load of 4 people but only once i experienced severe jerks at speed of 60 while trunk full of load and 5 healthy person. The car was taking more power to move.
Some mechanics told me that the noise is due to belts or belts tensioner.

Isolate the fault. When car is under heavy load it’s normal it’ll not accelerate as if it was occupied by 2 people.

Look into the belts and tensioner, fix them, see if that resolves your issue.

It will be an odd thing if a Toyota CVT fails this early, they don’t go bad this fast unless the person is towing heavy load with the car most days of a week and/or always pushing 100% gas from static position whenever driving as if racing to win a drag race. Or it was messed up during desi methods of CVT oil change…

Hello alll.
i hv been trying to login and add to thread since many days... but couldnt due to some technical issues from pakwheels website..
Well i purcahsed grande 2018..138 k milage... no CVT oil changed before....
Followed the recommendations of @bridgedoctorali...drive is ok... took images of fluid at every drain .. But my question is whats the source/reference of ur 3 drain /refill advice...
I follow an American guy ... one of the best persons i ever watched on youtube.. He rejected this idea... will share link over here...
1)Single drain and refill should be done... plz note all....
2) No need to open the sum/ change the filter unless your transmission is damaged and opened for repair...
3) He didnt recommend any oil pressure calibrations.
