yes you cant find any brand new K series engine.
4k and 5k were made till late 80s.
7k is used in townace & liteace hence this engine was produced till late 90s/2000. early 7k is carburator and later 7k is efi version.

for the model year of engine i have no idea about it. google it you might get some info by using engine nmber provided by seller.

and for the speeding thing, i have personally drove my 82corolla with genuine 4k engine + 4 speed manual gear upto 130 km/hr on M2. so 7k must be better than 4k being 1.8

all K series engines (1k,2k,3k,4k,5k,7k) produced by toyota from early 70s to late 90s are used in rwd pattern and needs no modification.

@rare . You previously in this thread mentioned that conversion of 4k MT to AT would cost round 20k.
In which city you are located ?
And have you tried or here anyone who have done this mod.
And what are the results ?

Plus any idea on power steering conversion. Currently I have a simple one.

i had converted mine 4 speed to 5 speed manual. that manual 5 speed costed my 11k plus labour and gear oil sums up total 13k and that 4speed was also with me.

at that time he (Kbarya) offered me to put auto tranmission in it for 20k which i refused bcz auto is not my taste and it needs modification on gear side of drive shaft. (new cross to be welded)

i am located in Rawalpindi and i bought the gear box from (Madina Market) Ahata Mithu Khan.

i have seen auto in 82 but engine is 4kTTC version, as per owner drive is smooth with no issues. (4k simple and 4k-ttc are different thing)

Buying such old school motors from junkyard is always gamble if if you just wanna do 200km/h you can do it with your 4k to after moding it a bit ofcourse

Wow, 130Km/hr, MashaAllah! I haven't been able to top 100km/h ever, and that's just with me alone in the car.

In regards to the 7k versions, what's easier to maintain and fix, the EFI or the Carb version? Sure, I can find mechanics in Karachi that would be able to fix up pretty much ANY engine problem, but I'm talking in terms of road trips, where if I break down in some remote area, a truck stop mechanic would be able to get me going as well.

The thought of being able to put a turbo or supercharger on it some time down the road does make me salivate but again, as with the EFI option, I'm not sure if I'm just gonna be creating more problems for myself or not.

mostly 7k available in junkyards are efi version which are better than carb as ppl claim efi version has better economy than carb.

if this engine is properly taken care off then you can go any where.

@m.ahsan.pasha . If engine is in good condition 120-130 is easily reachable. I've done it many times on Makran Coastal Hiway and Motorway but on a 4k stock engine it's not recommended I would say. Above 110 it screams like anything. 100 is Max and doesn't damage the motor. 5speed gear box can manage till 130nicely as the gear to speed ratio differs.

Ah yes, I've felt so many times that the engine has more power to offer but there just weren't enough gears to accomodate the power as I was on the stock 4sp.

IA, gonna get a 5sp with whatever engine I decide to go with.

i sold my 82 few months back.
i added a genuine cdi distributor of k series and later a k50 5 speed gearbox.
as per my understanding you cant go on log routes with modifications. stock engine is always easy to maintain.

You can bore out 5k piston in your car and due to stock head 5k piston will give better compression a taller ratio Diffy will help too

I'll discuss this with my mechanic. I definitely want more power but not at the risk of being stranded in the middle of nowhere!

Oh man, I don't really wanna start boring in the engine, a little scraping here and there for fixes and overhauling is fine by me but I honestly don't trust the precision of our local mechanics any further than that.
But I'll definitely look into a taller differential. I read somewhere that gives better economy as well!

If you swap Diffy on stock car you will actually kill low end & economy in city driving

7k is a nice torqugy motor but revs very very slow I would pick a 2c over 7k any day

bro 2c or 1c had never been stock motors in ke70 platform. diesel engine weight is more than petrol and makes too much vibration as a result chassis suffers. plus engine noise inside cabin.

dont you think 7k is better choice for ke70 without any harm to chassis and have absolute torque to climb up anywhere?

both of mentioned engines are not meant for "Racing" but driven pleaure matters.
