Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 Service and Maintenance

Hi there, After driving my car for almost 49,000 kilometers, I'm planning a service and maintenance at 50,000 kilometers or sooner (perhaps in the next few weeks). Help me please, and it would be greatly appreciated if you could add important things to note for when the mileage reaches 50,000 kilometers.

The brief history is as follows:
* I've been using Mobil1 5w30 from the beginning, and I replace the engine oil every 6000–7000 kilometers.
* At 40,000 km, the transmission oil was changed.
* At 37,000 km, the tires were replaced.
* At 30,000 km, the front brake pads were replaced.

Even though Toyota Ravi Motors (Lahore) has been maintaining my car since the beginning, I still don't trust most of the staff, therefore before I go for service and maintenance, I wanted to get as much information as possible from this community.

Since you've been using Mobil1 5w30 and changing it every 6K–7K kilometers, stick with that routine. Make sure to swap out the engine oil and oil filter. Also, remember that you changed the transmission oil at 40K kilometers. It's a good idea to check it again at 5K kilometers to make sure everything's still running smoothly. If it looks iffy, go ahead and get it replaced.

One problem I've noticed is that the car jerks when I shift from P to R (Reverse) and this only happens during the cold start after the engine has been running for two to three minutes.
However, if I park the car after it has been running for a time and then wish to reverse it, that doesn't happen.

at the transmission fluid change was the correct fluid used by dealership. did they really changed the fluid or only added the short quantity. 3S shops scamming for parts equipment charged but not changed is quiet normal phenomena, Fraud cheating has become a common national trait of Pakistan.

Failure to reverse in hot or cold engine for a vehicle with auto transmission, is sign of bad transmission fluid. 1st sign of transmission life come to an end.

Why? Transmission oil for AT is to be changed at 80k kms.

Absolutely nothing, just check the suspension since it's 5 years old. Nothing else, unless the car isn't first owner and you didn't have previous history, then can provide a check list

1. Engine oil Mobil 5W-30 fully synthetic is good for 10,000 kms
2. 40,000 kms for transmission oil change is very low. Severe driving conditions (motorway driving above 80% of maximum speed is only severe condition for transmission/gearbox) change oil 80,000 to 100,000 kms. and after first oil change, next changes should be at at 40,000 - 50,000 kms intervals. Get it replaced from a good mechanic who know what he is doing. Otherwise this fluid is filled for life and there is no need to periodically change it.
3. Tires and brake pads should be replaced subject to their condition. There is no specific mileage.
4. Brake oil at 40,000 kms if you are driving in humid areas
5. Air conditioner Cabin air filter (as well as engine air filter) at 10,000 - 15,000 kms if driving in rural dusty area
6. Do wash from outside condenser/radiator occasionally if driving on motorway
7. Fuel filter depends on fuel quality. If using good quality petrol, fuel filter should be changed above 100,000kms
8. Use only pink toyota coolant in radiator. Change radiator coolant at 160,000 to 200,000 kms.
9. Spark plugs at 80,000 kms to 100,000kms. Spark plug life depends on petrol quality.

Do suggest the interval after one should get the throttle body cleaned / idle rpm recalibrated wrt to fuel and environment in Pakistan. As internationally it isn't part of regular maintenance and carried out only if required e.g. some error code popping up or engine running rough/bad fuel economy.

If you are regularly changing air filter with OEM/good quality and using quality fuel, there is no need to clean/open throttle body ever. It may be required after 150,000 kms or beyond. Do regularly check throttle body if you use your car in very dusty area or feel rough idling/starting trouble.
It is also recommended to use some injector cleaner occasionally after few full tanks. It should be some quality brand. Toyota OEM or LM are good.

it engages, it always engage but the issue is jerk on cold start. once engine is hot the jerk goes away.

3S OEM asked me to change, and I was there when they changed the Transmission oil, I checked the gallon and verified before they poured. And when they drained the Transmission oil it was dark.

How dark was the transmission fluid as dark means your transmission is about to malfunction as internals have started to worn off.
Slight dark color is ok but if it was more than the thoughts then get ready to get your transmission change sooner or later you will be changing the transmission I’m not scaring you but telling you to the truth as I have gone through this.

It was not that much dark like black etc, it was like dark brown may be. They show me the periodic maintenance chart where it was higlighted to change transmission fluid at 40k KM for Grande and Altis 1.6 etc.

Brownish is still questionable color and normal fluid should turn from pink to lightly purplish color which has very slight carbon particles which is pretty normal. Your transmission may be on the verge of malfunctioning.

So I visited the 3S (Toyota Ravi motors). Had the complete maintenance which includes.

• Mobil 1 5w 30 oil change
• Oil filter change
• Wheel balancing
• Alignment
• Throttle body clean
• Spark plugs clean
• Brake pads service

Coolant and brake oil was fine.
Suspension was fine.
I'll change the rear brake pads after further 5k km.

They asked me not to use Injector Cleaner as of now, there is no need.

Apart from this there was no issue and everything was fine. And please don't scare me out, 3 different people checked the Transmission fluid the level was perfect, the color of the fluid was like it is just poured (absolutely neat and clean). There was no issue with the transmission.
