One of my relatives had a GLi auto and a City auto both and I have driven them both. The fuel economy figures are more or less the same. The acceleration of GLi will not be a problem as long as u r driving with the flow of the traffic. You will only feel the sluggishness when you want to overtake on busy roads. Again, I would say it depends from which car you are coming. If you have been driving a 1.8, you will feel it very sluggish. If you had been driving the older GLi, you won't feel much sluggishness in it. Personally, I feel the sluggishness doesn't impact the average user. It only becomes a problem if you are fond of accelerating through the roads and moving faster than the normal traffic.
