You did the right decision. There is a misconception in the people that diesels are expensive to maintain. But they are not. New diesel engines are comparable even in some cases less expensive to maintain.
My annual mileage is around 40,000 kms and for that kind of mileage in these 4x4 SUV class vehicles I can't afford to keep even a petrol Fortuner or Prado. Forget V6's or V8's. But I have kept vigos over last more than 10 years and they are reasonably affordable.
And there is no alternate to that feel of torque under the control of your right foot.
