guys am considering fortuner G but need ur guidance on fol things
1. is it underpowered for normal use
2. can it go some offr road like kumrat , kalam , kel, astore , i mean where track exist but in bad shape
3. is it better to go for fortuner G or revo V as both have minor differnce of price, my reuirement is trip to kashmir , northern areas after 2,3 months for camping but not hardcore off roading
4. is it bettrr to wait for baic bj 40 L

No point getting a Fortuner if it’s not 4x4, otherwise get a Sorento.

Fortuner G is more than sufficient to cater to your needs. I have Prado and have to do quite some off-roading. Honestly, it’s seldom that 4x4 Lo is used what to talk of Diff Lock and all other high end off road tech. So 4x2 at this price range is good value for money. Revo is good but Fortuner is better because it’s more of a family vehicle and a notch above Revo. In my humble opinion, these Chinese new comers cannot catch up with TOYOTA’s durability, reliability, ruggedness, after sale support and resale.

No comparison of Sorento with Fortuner. At best, Sorento is a cross over - though I consider it a modern carry dabba. While Fortuner is a hardcore, rugged body on frame SUV. Cross overs cannot be even remotely compared with SUVs. Fortuner’s competition is Prado and at current prices, Fortuner makes more sense.

To answer your queries:

1. No its not underpowered for normal use. It's only underpowered compared to 4.0L Prados and 2.8 Sigma4 Fortuners.
2. Yes, even 4x2 Fortuner can easily cover all these areas.
3. If you wish to travel with family, then fortuner would be much better. More room inside, dual AC, better at comfort than revo. Revo's rear seats are even tighter than grande's. Revo's advantage lies in having a more powerful engine and open rear deck. Revo would be better if only 4 or at max 5 adults are travelling for extreme offroading adventure.
4. Not at all. No competition between a Chinese replica and Fortuner.

Fortuner is not very comfortable but is a very capable, go anywhere, rugged offroader; no match there.

But getting a 4x2 Fortuner is total waste of money. You are neither getting the comfort nor the true 4x4 capabilities.
A 4x2 honestly sounds fake.

Better get Sorento. Its not an offroader but is atleast comfortable.

I recommend a 4x4 Fortuner. If that’s out of budget, get a Sorento. Fortuner G is a waste of money.

Fortuner’s competition is Prado and at current prices, Fortuner makes more sense.

There is no comparison. Prado falls under luxury class, with very high comfort, quality, features and better off-road capability. Fortuner is just a budget SUV with zero comfort. Its like comparing Corolla with BMW 7-Series.

How does Prado have better off-road capabilities? Prado doesn’t have a rear diff lock, A-Trac, LSD. You’ll not find a Prado with a more powerful engine than the 2.8L Diesel engine in a Fortuner except for a few select countries. Even the 4.0L V6 is down on torque and up in fuel consumption.

Prado is an all time 4x4 hence you didnt find the need, fortuner G might be risky without 4x4. Better go for Revo, you might also get more space to carry gear.

Fortuner and Revo production also halted due to non availability of CKD kits, chip shortage and increased freight costs.

Bro ask any real offroader , they will tell you that 4x4 is only applied in really extreme conditions, the places you mentioned Fortuner G can go there like a breeze, the most important thing which matters is the ground clearance which you will have with Fortuner.
And don't think about these raised up hatchbacks (cross-overs) or any Chinese brand.

1) i did find it pathetic as i was considering fortuner G myself, also a friend bought one on own and within a week finalized that he is selling it because of the 2.7
2) These areas can even be traversed on a corolla/ civic, 4x4 is for places where there is even no track at all
3) fortuner would be slightly more comfortable though not much but still better
4) That is a chinese rip off a wrangler that will have none of the off-road qualities even by a mile.

Also why are you basing your car purchase based on a few trips to the north, how about something more comfortable on road
