Well again in a slightly technical aspect, the premium becomes a part of car to some extent even for used registered cars. For example lets take a Civic, even today an old 2016 Civic X is fetching more than the invoice cost because of premium still going on today. Another example, an old 1.6 Altis or GLi AT is not so much below the cost as it should normally have because of the premium it has on new cars still today.
Another example is Honda City which an year older car is still selling at more than what it costs new on road. That impact on an older car is also related to and is a part of market value of a new similar car.
Yes I do agree that when premium goes lower its a bigger loss than taxes but then again if those taxes get revised a bit that impact (though they hardly reduce, always go up) is there on depreciation of imported cars as well.
The new additional taxes just recently imposed will probably give more hike to a for example a Prado and make it more expensive favouring these local cars like Fortuner more.
