Ok... Sigma4 -the diesel variant of the fortuner... As informed everyone earlier about the price revision from 5899 to 5999 respectively - its now almost confirmed with a little margin of revert. A 4x4 Fortuner is a 6million machine ex-factory & the on road price for common citizen of our country who is generally a non tax payer with the exception of a few will be 6 million + (with holding tax 4 lacs +Registration 2.5 lacs +commission 15000 + transportation 25000) almost 67lacs vehicle without any mods and don't forget the ON/premium money which will be not less than 7-8 lacs or perhaps near Eid touching a Staggering 1 million, will be Rs 7.5 million on road on an average basis.
What you get as a package is pretty useful but the cost you pay for it makes it rather a tasteless upgrade if not worthless.
Let's discuss the benefits of paying more...
1.Styling / Exterior
99.6 percent remains same with a stupid looking half baked silver foot board & a sigma 4 insignia at the back.
Interior
Remains same with addition of 4 buttons.
Performance
177hp diesel vs 167hp pertrol
450Nm. 245Nm
0-100 figures
11 secs diesel vs 12 secs petrol
Top speed
190km/h diesel vs 180 km/h petrol
Fuel Economy
11km/l vs 9km/l.
(100kms/11 x 97=Rs 880) diesel vs
(100km/9 x85=Rs945) petrol
Rs. 9 per km diesel vs Rs. 9.5 per km petrol
Maintenance oil + filter Toyota Tagalon each
8 ltrs oil @ 2500- 3000max kms
vs 6ltrs@ 5000kms
Rs.9300 /2500km= Rs 4/km diesel vs
Rs7400/5000km = Rs1.5/km petrol
So final running economy per liter in Pakistan :
Rs. 9 + 4 = Rs. 13 per km New 2.8 diesel vs
Rs. 9.5+ 1.5 = Rs. 11 per km 2.7 Dual Vvti petrol.
Price 4x4 Fortuner
Diesel = Rs 60 lacs. vs
Petrol = Rs 54 lacs ( lucky people bought it for even 52.5 lacs )
On an average user/ buyer Run in a 3 years ownership is 2000km/ month or 25000km/year
So its approx 75000kms run in general... Comparing the above discussed 2 variants at current running costs :-
75000kms x 13 = Rs. 975,000 approx diesel vs
75000kms x 11 = Rs. 825,000 petrol
Also periodic maintenance trips if no issue occurs
75000kms / 2500km = 30 dealerships visits diesel vs
75000kms / 5000kms = 15 visits petrol
Thus comparing the 2 variants, the Petrol Variant not only is twice as maintenance friendly but earns you 1 lac and 50 thousand rupees in running costs and 6 lacs in purchase upfront roughly totalling to 7.5 lacs rupees in 3 years ownership & that's huge amount considering to what you get in return from the Sigma4 diesel variant - insignificant / unnoticeable 1 sec in acceleration & 10kms in top speed performance wise and power tailgate & a faded silver foot board - though the key fob & keyless entry is good addition with VSC but doesn't justify the steep huge price hike for the unsophisticated rattling diesel engine which will be further revised after Budget this July.
Its the process of premium price mind making of the potential market step wise after success of new Fortuner design and laying foundation stone for a Rs. 6.5 million + ex-factory upcoming V6 TRD which is ready behind the curtains.
Looking into running costs & significant drive upgrade V6 4000cc is without a doubt the most viable & desirable option of the lot in Pakistan.
Fortuner is no load carrier like ReVo... But Even if Petrol variant ReVo is introduced with full options it will out sell Diesel by double in Pakistan market.
2.0d variant corollas extincted long ago & so does the desire for Diesel in elites keeping Prados & land cruisers or Nissan patrols etc as its not feasible now... There is 1365cc diesel variant corollas in India why not introduce them also...
