Did you see it or what? Why would they bring it to Lahore to test it against Thai model? This could be done in Karachi. How soon will they be launching, any idea?
I went to Toyota Walton and talked to Sales Manager and he again gave 1st week of March. He noted down my number and promised to give me a call before soft launch. He had no idea about specs or pricing or even launch date. I believe dealers don't know anything about it, they will only find out when Toyota officially announces a launch date.

I also checked with Toyota Sahara, Jail road and the sales manager said that there will be a public launch in PC by the end of this month or early March. Car will be available in showrooms by mid of March for delivery in April. Price would be around 5.5 million. Looks like solid information but the price is still very high. Fortuner better be an outstanding vehicle to convince me to spend 5.5 million. I have a friend who fresh imported top of the line Prado 2008 and it costed him 5.5 million. I guess I'll offer him 6 million

The specs look good and I will definitely buy it at 4.5 million. Anything over 4.5 million it really has to impress me, rather mesmerise me. If it's over 5 million then I am out. At the end of the day it's a small SUV and I am sure no one would be willing to buy it at 5+. It's not Civic or Corolla where an average buyer can stretch his budget by 1-2 lakh. It's for upper middle class and they have many options available in this range. If I didn't need SUV I would rather spend on Mercedes or BMW.

I have gone through the thread and my question is whether a Fortuner is really required to be assembled locally? Would it not be better to have a locally assembled 1.0 or below Toyota or Daihatsu car? The market base for a Fortuner is very limited whereas for a 1.0l or below car it is quite extensive. But I guess Toyota is probably thinking that the profit margin on a selling one Fortuner would equal to the profits gained by selling maybe 10 1.0l or below cars. This tactic probably benefits the company but gives nothing to the public here. Sad. I now envy the Indian car market where there are tons of options for the normal person.:S

You are right Mehran but those who can afford a bigger expensive car, let them have it However our market should be open like India. They have every brand available and manufactured there. It's the Government that makes polices that can flourish investments and create competition. Mr. Zardari or Mr. Jungla Bus Service/sasti roti/laptop/peeli taxi don't have the vision or even will to do anything.

There's another strategy IMC could follow as far as pricing and profits are concerned. I did mention it in a couple of my posts before. If I am IMC then I'd price Fortuner around 4 million at launch time. I could have two benefits 1.) see market response 2.) sell as many units as possible to cover up profit. Civic is already around 2.5 million and Pakistani people love their cars and spend their last penny on buying a new model so people buying Civic, Premio, Mercedes etc. would definitely think about buying Fortuner and those who can afford it will buy it. If it's priced over 5 million then it's way out of their budget. IMC always has the option of raising price after a while which they definitely will.

They need to create a buzz for Fortuner by keeping the price low. The Ads campaign for Vigo didn't work or help and it's not going to help in Fortuner's case too. Look at the views of this thread and see how many people actively participated. I guess only 2-3 in a population of 180 million. This shows interest level in IMC products and then compare that to the Civic thread. IMC needs to follow customer trends and listen to them.

has anybody noted the interior color for Vigo champ is totaly changed, last time i checked it was plain grey, yesterday i went on the Indus website and its grey beidge with plastic/Wooden tirms.
@mani, the target market is people who are actualy considering buying a vehicle in that price range, many people didnt buy the Vigo champ just because of its wagera image in Pakistan. Many people i know want to buy it but are reluctant not to buy it just because of the wadera culture associated to it.

Hence the target market are thoose people, adding brand new car freaks who wouldnt buy a used car at any cost, third kind who would change their minds from buying a Accord/Camry or a basic C class they would opt for a more power ful localy servicable Toyota SUV.

And yes @everybody, the engine isnt the same as of Vigo Champ since what ive known is that its a Petrol A/T transmission. 2700cc (still a rumour)
