I think in the non CVT models (older ones) it says 5W-30. and to some extent hot climate theory is legit, reason being that yes the fan does kick in when the sensor reads 90-95 on the coolant line but that doesnt necessarily mean your engine head temperature (where oil is actually providing lubrication) is 90, the actual engine temperatures do tend to run hotter in hot climate zones hence the need for different cooling systems as per markets.
but yes using 20w-50 is wrong because it will cause additional load to the already overheated pistons. unfortunately our local technicians rather than looking into the problem just recommend a jugar for the time being. my old belta was decreasing oil level because the intake air filter and exhaust CAT were choked and the USTAAD told me to use a thicker oil fortunately on a friends advise i corrected both mentioned problems and got the TPS module serviced by God the car felt much lighter and the oiling issue was gone in just a few days. these fancy high compression engines do need proper routine maintenance else they cause problems.

I agreed with you Wajhat on this that Fan Kicks on After reading the temperature from Temperature Sensor ,
and hardly in 1KRE your car coolant level and oil levels goes down . Unless Engine causing Issues . but EM bit concern am looking for oil change and Since First day am Using Havoline Formula (10w-30) and now i want to switch to ZIC 5W-20 And mechanic saying it will sound on head (duboo) if i go to lighter oil

hmm, i would suggest you go with 5-30, there are 2 types of noise from normal 1KR engines,
1. piston knock (bad) (can be checked with computer)
2. tapet noise (doesnt make much of a difference)

i think decreasing the oil grade wont have any impact on piston rather it is better to use lighter oils. tapet may make a noise since the gaps will need to be readjusted (if loose) but that happens once you come from 20w-50 to 5-30 which is not the case here. so i guess you should be fine, although as discussed before I think if u decrease the oil grade you may face higher oil consumption. easy way to check is to see if the silencer has too much black powder residue if yes than there may be an issue, if the residue is reddish in color than you should be fine.also do get the CAT washed as that also has significant affect on car pick/ mileage.

When you talk about Higher Oil Consumption does it mean that it will reduce oil level ? Milage is about 12.3 ON AC in city so far 2007 model and register is on 2011

Tried both altron and vpower. In the end sticked to total hi octane. V power I think gives better acceleration didn't measure it but the feel was a little different. Altron was alright the milage went down to 15.5 with that with v power was 16 on the trip computer. Total gave 17.3 on the trip computer so using that. On the 40k km sent it to dealership for front brake bad change and cvt oil change. They used only half the can of cvt oil and sent the rest back with the car.

@Maz, go for 5w-30 and reset the trip after that. take the car on any straight open road for 20-30 mins and you will get the best mileage your car is offering. also I agree with Ali on total, i had almost similar experience with all three brands except altron is generally very dirty (try putting in a clear bottle for 2-3 days).
also if you are very concerned about the mileage please do get the CAT washed, air filter cleaned/ changed, plugs replaced if necessary (Denso VKH20 or NKG ILFR6AIX-11 or any good long reach plug). you mentioned the new radiator can you send me a picture of the new one because a friend of mine is looking for a replacement but all he can find is 28 channel (naali) ones here in Rawalpindi.

@Ali: correct me if i am wrong but non-CVT takes 3L transmission oil and the CVT version takes 2.6 liters. in both cases they cant give you half can back, please make sure they filled it to the required level else you may face problems in future. generally with transmission oil change it is better to get the magnetic filter cleaned as well I know it needs opening the oil pan but it is a pretty safe procedure.

Ur car is 2007.. The recommended oil is 5w 30... Stick with that... 0w 20 is for models 2011 and above..

Hi there,
I am getting very low mileage on my boon 2007 regd 2012. Is it a fuel efficient car or not? I am getting only 8 km/ l with Ac within the city. I bought it nearly 2 weeks ago, got oil changed only. Haven't got it tuned. What services should I go for as I expect atleast 13km/l with AC within the city. Suggest please and any good mechanics in Karachi? And is my car CVT? Besides, what is CVT? Sorry but I just got into JDM cars.

If you're in Karachi then getting 10-12 out of it is acceptable due to traffic conditions.
Get your airfilter, cabin ac filter, oil filter replaced. Also make sure you use 10-30 oil max not any thicker.
If you have this shape then it's not CVT.

CVT in simplest term don't have any gears like conventional auto transmission. Furthermore you dont feel any JERKS while gears are changing because there are no gears. And CVT are more fuel efficient than NON CVT. In fact all automobile manufacturers are shifting to CVT transmission.

Shall I go for throttle body service, plugs replaced, injectors serviced besided oil filter, oil and air filter? Ac air filter was replaced too since I got Ac serviced as well. I am very much worried as I read other people posting 13-14km/l on Ac within the city and mine gives 8 only. Yes, its an old shape, hence a non cvt transmission. Even my cultus gives 12.5 with Ac. I thought Jdm cars are fuel efficient

What oil you are using?
I think no need for throttle body service until you feel any abnormality while idling.
Well I have 2013 model any friends here with 2007 model can confirm practically what average it gives.
Mine 2013 CVT model gives 12-14.

It's too thick, try switching to something thinner like 10-30. It will impact your fuel economy.

How much your car is driven. If its less than 1lac km than go for 5w30. Otherwise 10w30. Calculate your car fuel average manually.

I calculated manually. Driven about 156 km yesterday with ac, tank was full and then I refilled it for 19.2 litres.
