I prefer rebuilds too but only if the car doesn't have burnt head gasket. Since after lathe work we don't get custom mls gasket...

So like in cast iron blocks i recommend rebuilds.
But in aluminium blocks i don't just because of this zero availability of custom mls..

Yes sir, expertise matter alot.
And finding gold from scrap yard is also an art. So i basically value, if i get less used assembly or complete engine.

ok starting from where i discontinued

So a basic thing when purchasing the old vitz is which we all ignore is engine and transmission health.
We prefer that body should not be repaired or repainted and totally forgets about the main Power source of the vehicle its engine.
How do we test the engines when we purchase the vehicle. normally we check for oil leakages , visual smoke by accelerating it for 1 or 2 times or by analyzing the blow by in the engine. thats the normal way of checking a normal engine but in these new gen engines where cast iron is eliminated and aluminum is preferred for reduction in weight plus getting more juice out of an engine. so to get more efficiency engine internal designs are changed now which requires some special lubrication to reduce the engine internal temperatures and provide resistance from wear.

A normal engine when is deteriorates it produces smoke from all rpm ranges and has excessive smoke at cold starts where as the 1KR engine doesn't produce any smoke at all from idle condition till 2500rpm range. and if the vehicle is driven normally no smoke is observed But a significance oil consumption is noted after 1000kms of drive condition normally a deteriorated engine consumes from 0.8L to 1.2 L Which in User manual is considered normal But In Workshop Repair Manuals its considered as Premature Oil Ring Failure which normal public is never informed of so To Test the engine of old vehicles with aluminium Blocks this is the test procedure. Which is Known As Smoke Test
Always Warm up the engine and drive it for about minimum 25 Km's Minimum then switch off the engine Remove the Oxygen Sensor From the top of the Catalytic Converter and then start the engine Accelerate the Engine and keep the throttle constant and observe the smoke coming out of the exhaust hole if the smoke is like brown then it is the indication of excessive soot formation in Combustion chambers and Cat Converter . But if The smoke is BLUE or Whitish then the engine has Oil Smoke which is the indication of Deteriorated Piston Ring's and worned out cylinder bore.

and this is the reason most of the time we had failed to analyze the engine properly and after purchase when we shift to oem oil viscosities it consumes a lot of Oil and has poor acceleration as compared to a normal healthy engine Plus the fuel efficiency drops and hence a client assumes that this engine is underpowered for this vehicle which in fact is not.

it depends on the rebuild Experience 50k is a lot cheapest rebuild for 1.8 Civic
it doesnt survives at all

Toyota says 1 liter oil burn per 1,000 KM is normal. Why would they misguide the public? Additionally, do you have proof of Workshop Repair Manual for 1kr-fe which says it is premature and a failure?

Toyota would be prone to getting sued all over the world if they had this 2 different things in their docs, misguiding the public.

In PAK, most people are not aware that these new engines like 1kr-fe burn sp,e oil which is considered is absolutely normal by Toyota. Our mechanics immediately recommend an overhaul or swap or rebuild upon hearing oil burn.

But, if it's not above 1 liter per 1000 km, then it appears to be normal.

quality of the oil and the way the vehicle is driven.
●More oil is consumed under driving conditions such as high speeds and
frequent acceleration and deceleration.
●A new engine consumes more oil.
●When judging the amount of oil consumption, keep in mind that the oil
may have become diluted, making it difficult to judge the true level accurately.
