Toyota Vitz (2000) Regged 2008 Transmission and Front Disc Brakes Query

Hi guys,

I am currently getting in my possession a Toyota Vitz Reg 2008. I believe it was made in 2005/2006 but I'm not 100% sure and will double check and add that info later.

The car has been standing unused at my grandmothers home for almost 2 years.

What I would really like assistance with is a kind of checklist that I need to get this car in roadworthy condition. That car is currently in Abbottabad, and I am based in Lahore. The checklist so far is.

1) Change battery
2) Change Oil and Oil filter.
3) Check tyres and tyre pressure.

Anything you can add to that list would be appreciated.

Also, I plan to bring the car back to Lahore, so my question is how much work should I get done in Abbottabad, and leave anything bigger for a good service center in Lahore.

In my experience the service centers in Lahore are much higher quality and don't have a problem with shortage of parts.

You can also check following items:

1. Air Filter, Cabin Filter
2. Spark Plugs
3. Throttle body
4. Catalytic Converter
5. Transmission (oil, filter, etc.)
6. Brakes, Brake pads, etc.
7. Scanning via computer to check for and clear any fault codes
8. Radiator Coolant
9. Washer fluid
10. All oils / lubricants (like brake fluid, steering fluid, etc.)

First visually inspect all items.

Those who require thorough servicing / cleaning, clean them.

For fluids, Top up or replace, depending on their condition.

If replaceable items need replacement, replace them.

I would suggest to go for complete preventive maintenance for your car, from any reputed garage in your city.

Do you or does anyone else have any ideas if a reputable and good quality authorized Toyota service center in Abbottabad, or should I get the bare minimum done and bring it back to Lahore where I get it properly checked out?

a car sitting idle for 2 years need a new battery, - replace oil filter, replace air filter change oil. start the engine, let it rev till the engine cooling fan start

check for air pressure in wheels & adjust. start driving start driving, after 25 - 100 km run drain transmission oil, by removing transmission sump, wash clean the transmission filter close the sump and top up transmission fluid.

. any problems in car due to long idle sitting will surface only after driving

Well... I would advise to just get the basic / bare min. work done in the start. Just check the main / absolutely necessary things and drive your car for some Kms. When you reach Rawalpindi / Islamabad or even Lahore, then get all the work done in a proper manner.

Still... Engine oil change along with genuine oil filter is a must! For oil grade / viscosity, I would advise API SN, 5w-30, Fully Synthetic engine oil from any reputed brand (like Total Quartz 9000; its best value for money). Oil must also be 100% genuine and original.

And no need to get anything done from any Toyota Dealership. They are butchers and charge hefty amount of money for even small, normal works.

I would advise to get all the work done from Rawalpindi, or when you reach Lahore.

I do not know about good and reasonable garages in Lahore, however, if in Rawalpindi, then I may guide you.

I have checked and this is a 2000 model registered in 2008 and is an automatic transmission.

How hard is it to maintain this car in terms of availability of parts and the required technical know how by mechanics?

Is it worth keeping or should I try to get rid of r it and sell it as soon as possible?

This is abbotabad so I don't know for easy it will be too find total quartz so can you give me a few more options that I can look for?

Also I have no idea what oil filter fits in this as I have no idea about Vitz cars at all

buy a toyota oil filter for 1KR engine , buy shell helix from shell pump and you are good to go

lift the hood and check the oil filter how it look like. either of the Toyota filter will fix in your vitz

In Abbottabad, all services that you need are readily available. If you want that someone can go with you and check all the things mentioned in the querry and get the car started so that you can reach Lahore and do the remaining comprehensive works there than I would recommend Amjad Gul Ustaad.He is a very honest person and will help you by every means. Two problems with him, first he is a very busy man so you have to get an appointment from him a day or two before; secondly you have to bear with his anger and cursing. All his talks start and end with some sort of curse ( not to the customer but into thin air, to no-one, he seems to curse himself all the time). His contact number is; 03005614573.
Second option is to go for the starting/checking work and going to Lahore or doing the comprehensive work in Abbottabad. Toyota Abbott motors is the proper 3S dealer and the most co-operative person there is Mr.Shahoor manager works. This is the easiest maintainable vitz.

For starters just get a doner battery and start the car.

Once the car is started, get is washed, engine oil changed.

Look for any necessary repairs and if tires are driveable.

Bring the car to Lahore and then work slowly this car is so rigid it would probably just start without any hiccups with a new battery and petrol only

It is 1st generation Vitz, and only Vitz in its 1000 cc category with 04 cylinder engine. If car is in satisfactory condition and engine is perfectly fine, never think of selling it! Consider yourself lucky! (I am assuming you have 1000 cc Vitz)

Not at all! Parts are easily available, and mechanics know this car quite well.

Well, Total Quartz 9000 will definitely be available there. Its quite a reputed and easily available brand. Still if its unavailable, you may go for any oil which is API SN, 5w-30 and Fully Synthetic.

Just ask the oil filter guy to give you Oil filter for 2000 model, 1st generation Vitz. Do mention your car's cc.

It is a 1000cc automatic. Inshallah I am taking it today to get it worked on, and God willing, everything will work out fine.

I have been to Toyota Abbott Motors and the oil they recommended and used was Toyota Patron motor oil. Bear in mind that this car has a total mileage of 127,000 kms.

I also flushed the Radiator and replaced it with proper Coolant zs it was filled with water (lol).

I got the brakes serviced and got a general check up of the car.

They said that I should also replace the transmission oil but said that there is a risk that if I do it, that there is a small chance that my car could just stop working so I did not do it.

That is my question to you guys. What is this issue with getting the transmission oil changed? Were they saying this out of ignorance or is this an actual problem?

I am bringing the car to Lahore and can I safely get it done from an authorized service center there without any risk?

Well... This logic is beyond my comprehension!

If transmission fluid of your car has completed its service life, and needs replacement (along with full service / cleaning of transmission filter), and is replaced by 100% fully compatible and Toyota Genuine ATF, then what's the harm in doing that?

I personally think that transmission might stop working, if oil is not changed when it completes its service life and needs replacement.

Problems only arise when people pour incompatible oils. Things stop working or misbehaving, and they curse oils, brands, or people for their advises.
