as I said before - the safety rating for crash tests are independant of manufacturer, NHSTA and MOT UK have two very separate type tests. All american cars will pass the MOT but more than half of UK MOT wont pass the American test.

Doesnt mean the cars are bad does it??

btw - speaking of quality of Toyota in USA, are you forgetting these (tacoma/tundra)

or the elusive brown/amber power steer oil they dont sell to anyone at all and ask to use dexron oil which eats the return line, Or the rebuilt calipers that are not factory matched? or cars devoid of
finished paint in the inner panels like the speaker shelf tray etc.

or the wonderful tundra/sequoia dashboard which makes a mehran dashboard feel like luxury quality.

Sure I agree with what you said; automobile manufacturers here have no incentive to include any safety equipment because relevant laws do not exist and as they are a seller, their interest is in maximizing revenues and minimizing their costs which they already do by not including airbags in a Rs. 2.8 million vehicle.

However, you are wrong about imposing manufacturer's interests on a consumer. You can not expect consumers to agree with manufacturers' motto of maximizing profits and ultimately paying more for an inferior product. Consumer will obviously look at his/her benefit - it's their hard earned money after all. As for regulations, consumers can not really do anything, majority of us are not a part of government - we have no power. All we can do is demand maximum basic features from manufacturers. As you said, City, Civic, Corolla, Yaris are well engineered - I agree with that and I believe they are on par with each other, but, people are not wrong to demand airbags in City especially when Yaris is including them in a similar price bracket.

City's sales will suffer because consumer will simply go for a product which comes closest to his/her demands, manufacturers thrive on our money, least they can do is listen and acknowledge our demands at least to some extent; even if regulations/rules do not exist. Though, I agree in a country like ours, they have no need to.

Narrow hona actually Yaris ki chaair baan gai ..... it can't possibly be narrower than a city. If city is OKish than Yaris should too.

you as consumer have lots of power but demanding product without pressure of law is a futile attempt. If Pakistani people voice out that passenger cars in Pakistan should have 7 airbags minimum and no allowance for safety compromise - manufacturers can be subsidied for that by the govt. But the policy then would be for all vehicles, meaning no ricksha, no scooty, no qingqi

but OTOH.

the other awaam will cry with the victim mentality of sensationalist BS of

"ghareeb awaam kya karay - hum apni repair car bhi nahi chalasaktay"
"denter/painter ki rozi roti khatam hogai"
"ghareeb awaam ki savaari bhi khatamm kardi"

As its a free market, you can stop buying the product and it will go away, just like Raja Motors packed up the Fiat brand due to no sales. - Just dont buy the city if it has no airbags - AHMCL will either install them or just stop making them altogether - in both cases its a win.

i.e. if you can get normal consumers to actually see beyond ,shape, LCD, alloy wheel, LED headlights. (which you wont)

I believe you didn't read my entire post in the chain. I suggest you read it. I am talking about local mandated protocol . Secondly once you mandated a protocol, how we will know if it's good enough ? obviously test.. Currently there is no mandate and there is no test and everyone k ows the quality and safety features and equipment Corolla, Civic whatever you name it.

As of Thundra Tacoma or another brand in US, you have a rust warranty in black n white and obviously for a time duration. PKDM cars dont have it at all. Its your problem if you get rust on the second month of purchase.

Note: Toyota settled the 3.4 billion dollar rust lawsuit in US which was to replace frames of 1.4 million pickups because there was a stick of the law and now they will make sure it does not happen again and will try to eliminate the causes.

PK dont have the law and do you think the assemblers are so ALLAH MIAN KI GAEY ?.. Obviously where there is no law, they can and they are easily compromising on the quality and that is what I have been saying for the last few posts.

btw - the toyota lawsuit went on for almost eons before they gave in and started replacing those rotted frames.

speaking of rust holes in Pakistani cars - you can claim it at the dealer, the manufacturer has a team for this purpose that does exhaustive analysis on the rust hole formation on a new car, BTDT. ROFL.

I still think that you are believing that sheeda denter is welding cars with his oxy acy gess battee at the assembly lines in Pakistan. The bodies are following the exact dimensions, materials, seal and welds of the usual GEM cars that they are based on.

I think you are emphasizing the victim mentality again. PW is a pretty powerful forum, Lets lobby the govt to take action.

how come I could get a daihatsu coure rear fender apron repaired and painted for free back in 2003? I didnt do any magic??

the car was only 5 weeks old and one rust bubble showed up. All I did was contact IMC and they instructed me to go back to the dealer which was Eastern in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, they already knew the drill.

simple as that - no higher up, indirect channel, sweaty palms, asked to remove posts etc etc.

secondly - the love of airbag is strong in Pakistan, but the same people never buckle up because seatbelt se mardaana kamzori aur zanana baanjpann hojata hai - LOL.

Driving on the roads of islamabad. You will see more people buckled in cars like civic corolla etc.

Can you just enlighten how a car with airbag and without airbag are equal in safety?

In case someone needs to apply emergency brakes, a car with ABS will hold its lane and has less chance of skidding sideways and rolling over. So how can a car with ABS and without ABS equal in safety?
