This.
This end of life cycle is the reason I eventually ended up with Yaris Ativ (1.3)
Yaris 1.3 was the cheapest new sedan I could buy (11 year old City is not a reasonable option now in my opinion). When assessing other options I could afford by extending my budget, I considered Yaris 1.5 and Altis 1.6.
I liked features like multi-information display, push start, screen + rear camera, digital climate control, keyless entry of 1.5 variant and did consider it as an option, but there were two factors which refrained me from going for it.
First, I didn't like the performance figures of the 1.5 engine. It offered only 8hp more than the 1.3 variant. It is better than 1.3, but not by as much as I wanted it to be (If I was to decide between 1.3 and 1.5 variants of Honda City, I would certainly go for 1.5 variant as it offers significantly better performance compared to 1.3 variant, which is not the case with Yaris)
Second, it was priced too close to Altis 1.6 for my liking. Price difference between lowest and highest end variants of Yaris is more than price difference between highest end Yaris and 1.6 Altis. So if I was gonna splurge more to get a better car than 1.3 Yaris, I was gonna spend a bit more to get the better platform. Everyone has their own preferences, and I can respect that, but as far as I am concerned, Altis 1.6 is the better car (waddi gaddi
).
What made me stick with Yaris 1.3 instead of going for Altis 1.6, is that newer version of Corolla has already been launched worldwide and it hopefully won't be long before it is released in Pakistan. I didn't want to stretch my budget that much and end up with my new car becoming "older model" within a few months.
If current generation of Corolla and current generation of Yaris were launched together and would have remained latest model for equal time, I would have gone for Corolla. As that's not the case, I went for Yaris.
My opinion, which like everyone else, I'm entitled to, is that Corolla is the superior platform and platform jump is more significant than few gadgets (no matter how much I like or value those gadgets). Everybody obviously is free to disagree and for someone's specific preferences / requirements one might be more suitable or better option than the other
