This is offtopic but well.
Yes I agree the committed COVAX doses are being rolled out slow, but we are periodically getting them. The first lots of astrazeneca and pfizer were sent to us under COVAX (in small amounts but they were sent) and if I remember correctly, we are expected to receive a total of 1.7 crore doses under covax.
This is why our government makes decisions on the positive ratio rather than actual numbers, because honestly there are not enough tests being done. I have also heard of some doctors not recommending to spend money on the test because they say (in one case) that we know its covid, and test result is not going to change the treatment plan, so don't waste your money etc.
I think this is why our government chose to buy moderna instead despite it being expensive because it seems Pfizer is not available in large enough numbers.
I think local production is the only way to get vaccines as needed. I think this is why if you visit the wikipedia vaccines page, so many countries, including European countries, many Asian countries including Vietnam, India, Thailand, Singapore, Turkey, Iran, Bangladesh, and other countries including Australia, Canada, Brazil etc. have some vaccine in the pipeline (preclinical, stage 1, stage 2 mostly).
This is important because having own vaccine is the only way to ensure availability according to government's plan. And a lot of vaccines will be required in future specially boosters because the virus is also evolving. And this is why I believe Pakistan needs to put a vaccine in the pipeline as soon as possible. I feel ashamed to not see even a single candidate or trial going on here.
I have grave doubts about Chinese vaccines, specially those which got late approvals by UN (Sinovac and Cansino). I got Sinovac as well but I will try to get a better booster when possible.
Looking at recent numbers, we have picked up good speed, going at about 500-600k doses per day (this should be increased to 10,00,000 per day considering our population). We are behind on total numbers because we started very late, and I would put this on the government. No private company brought vaccines except small batches because they didn't agree with the price set by the govt (they were looking to mint money) as well which is a setback. I was expecting vaccines to be privately available as well so that those who get medical from their employers can get theirs privately, increasing the speed of vaccination specially in big cities.
And SPOs to hum be kabhi bhi nai follow kiay, and in our country (and most 3rd world countries) SOPs conflict with the business activity, and governments cannot afford to feed people at their doorstep. For example how will a small shop (5-7 foot) ensure SOPs? Its a difficult balance because too much strictness puts businesses and jobs at risk. But I agree we have been careless as well, and SOPs should be followed at least as much as practically possible. Wear masks at least. And govt should hold the supply and control prices of the masks strictly.
