A lot depends on where you are in the queue - the dealerships get a fixed quota every month, the earlier you book the earlier you are in the queue. Colour doesn't matter in normal circumstances, your turn matters. When I booked, the dealer told me there are only 2 slots left for July for ATIV X so I got the 2nd last one and so my turn came the end of July. If I had booked through another dealership on same date, I might have gotten an earlier turn and gotten the car early. (There was a surplus stock of Yaris in white in June which is why some people who booked white got it early, that was an exceptional scenario, but now its back to normal).
In short, don't be scared, you will get your car as per your turn, not before and not after 
Indus has a system in place, the dealerships don't explain to customers so it seems like its all random, but its not.
As for City vs. Yaris - these features (and not to forget missing VSC, TC, HA) are not worth 2.7 lac. Yaris ATIV X is the best package in this segment right now with the most value to money. So I think we all made a good decision
